It's there to prevent large debris from going any further. You can remove it if you like. The screen wasn't actually a part of the MAS as is the case with the original meter then?

So the screen is just a "post filter"...good to know. In my case, the screen was not incorporated into the MAS like it was on my OEM 55mm. Interesting also that the opening for the MAS tapered out to 2 or 3mm larger than the frame on the screen. I was going to put the screen back into service between my adapter flange and the MAS but it was smaller than the MAS opening.
 
The screen is actually a flow straightener.

Ford uses a small screen.
GM uses a chunk of Honeycomb aluminum.

The screen just helps to orient the airflow before it hits the MAS. This makes the readings more accurate.

Some folks remove the screens, as they are a bit of a restriction. However, this can affect the accuracy of the MAF/MAS, as the unit was calibrated for use with a screen...

Do all of the above have 70mm MAF tubes stock and will they bolt on a 87-93 mustang?

A quick check of the auto parts catalogs show that they all use the same housing and sensor. Looks like a one to one swap.

Evidently the –A1A, -A2A, AA, etc. on the end of the part number is a minor variant that did not change the operating specs. You should be able to ignore it and have everything work good.

All the above will interchange without any modifications

The entire point of this thread was that the F2VF sensor and 70mm This will work quite well.

The F2VF sensor will not work in the 55mm Fox MAF tube.

Your still not quite phrasing the question properly.

The part number you are giving is strictly for the sensor.

If that sensor is in a 70mm tube, then it will work very well on a Fox (A9* series computer) Mustang.

If this sensor is in anything but a 70mm FORD tube, then it will not work.

Hope that helps clear it up :shrug:

dont know if it's been posted, but R. Holdener's 5.0L Dyno test book said the numberswere peak at 335 hp, 367 tq, and the Cobra 70 was 343 hp, 370 tq. Average numbers were 3hp difff. and a 3 tq. difference. This was on a H/C/I motor.
On a stocker, the diff between 58mm and a C&L 73mm was 194, 260, vs.202, 265.
 
Thought I would post some pics of the ebay adapter so people could get a good look. This is the v6 adapter, which is the right one for adapting this meter to a 5.0 fox.

I thinking of putting a little RTV between the two when I install it just for good measure. I'm waiting to find a stock rubber air hose to cut up so I don't have to alter mine.

About the seal, since it's before the MAF sample tube, the MAF "should" still sample the correct air flow. But, a leak it would effect the turbulence - that effects sampling accuracy and air flow resistance. Instead of RTV, I'd suggest getting some gasket material from the parts store and use the adapter as a template.
 
An alternative for the gasket: the Mac CAI on my 94 uses a rather thick (the thickness of a quarter perhaps) rubber gasket. The rubber works well IMHO and is quite reusable.

Also, their cold air kit has a rubber gasket like you need for the adapter.

But, the upstream tube wouldn't be correct.

BTW: PLEASE NEVER put a cone filter right on the end of the MAF - NEVER EVER EVER!!!
