With an automatic behind a turbo 4, the 8" would almost be overkill for strength. I used to run my 351W+C4 with a 2.79 8" and broke 3 transmissions without hurting the rear end at all.
Stick shift is a different story, but since you're running a boosted 4, you still wouldn't be that hard on it even when abusing it. I've broken an 8" with a 302 + T5, and broken a 9" with the 351W + Tremec. Prior to putting a T5 behind my 302, I broke 2 RAD 4spds.
Nice to see that another Turbo II will be on the road, with the same HP goals I have for mine. Too bad mine has been sitting in the garage for 3 years now waiting on me come up with an intercooler, intercooler plumbing, exhaust, wideband O2, and bigger injectors.
