5.0 Cobra or 4.6 Cobra?

I think you missed this part where this guy only has mild bolt ons, no HCI..

I don't think thats tearing much into anything

I saw the list, but to be honest feel it only further aids my point. Especially when you consider that those sort of times can be achieved with a '96-98 Cobra with the stock throttle body, Mass Air Meter, inlet tube and Cat back. With traction, decent drivers are dipping into the 12's with nothing more than aggressive gearing, U/D pulleys, a drop in air filter, Long tube headers and an off road mid pipe. :nice:

The biggest killer of the early 4V Cobra platform is not allowing it to run within the prime real estate of its power band. A set of 3.27's may be fine for an OHV that starts making its torque 1,000RPM lower in the rev range and begins falling on it's face at about 4,800RPM, but you can't approach DOHC performance with the same strategy. These early 4V's don't have the torque or displacement going for them off idle that the OHV's do…but man do they breath when at full cry!!! So getting them up there hard and fast is your most prudent strategy...and it’s where they really shine!

Yep, seems like he missed a lot more than that, too. Gearbanger, if you're not going to bother reading a post, then just don't respond to it. I addressed pretty much everything you laid out already. So I'll refrain from doing it again.

Chris

I sir have laid out my points earlier in the thread. It seems that it is you who chooses to ignore what I posted in favour of your some what distorted view. :)

I'm pretty sure that list is nothing more then a throttle body, mass air, exhaust and gears and they are dipping into the 12's as well?? I understand the DOHC is a better engine stock for stock, but with minor bolt ons for both engines they see 12's..

I think he adressed everything you said and then some to prove the 5.0 cobra is a very good car, and with minor bolt on's you'll see high 12's.. don't see why everyone is saying its a pig and will be destroyed

Which point, this one?
As it sits, with basic bolt ons, a gear swap and some sticky tires you’re looking at 12-second ET’s DOHC cars….unlike the stock 302, where unless you want to run 14’s for the rest of your days, you need to replace nearly the entire top end of the engine, or invest in some sort of power adder.

I can only think of one thing to say in response: Bwahahahahah! Oh man, you're too much. You know, gearbanger, it's ok to admit when you're wrong. You can do it without losing face. C'mon man, you were talking about power adders to get out of the 14s, and then you accuse me of:

Given the number of quotes, I'd say I didn't ignore much. Get over your DOHC cobras. They're super cars... I love 'em. I'll probably even own another one in the future just for the hell of it. They aren't the only great cars, though.

No hard feelin's,

Chris

This is the most unbiased and fair post in the entire thread, FWIW:

ive owned a 94 cobra and currently own a 96 cobra. the 94 is easier to work on in the garage changing heads cams ect... and upgrage parts have been made for the 5.0 for way longer. so a lot of the parts are cheeper, and the 5.0 has more torque down low . the 96 has a more advanced engine and responds better to computer tunning and supercharging. the 4.6 motor likes higher rpm's and has better torque up high. the guys who own a 5.0 are going to like those and the guys who own a 4.6 are going to like those. i dont know what i would pick if there were both sitting beside each other and were the same price with same miles i guess it would come down to color. if you owned a 97 gt you are probably use to the 4.6 power curve...
