I'm embarrassed

OK, I've got something to say to this post, as I am the owner of a SHO and a Mustang GT. Granted my SHO is a 1991 and I have been known to call it a POS (only in good fun), for it's era it was a fairly fast car (it will run mid to high 14's @ 98 mph, GTECH times). I guess I really don't understand what is so embarrassing about loosing to a car that has more power than yours? Who cares that Ford has come out with an engine that has more power than the engine in your Mustang. I say Kudos to Ford for doing this! Look at what it is, it's a twin turbo engine! What kind of power would your Mustang make with a twin turbo set-up, heck what about a single turbo? Will this Ford initiative lead to bigger an better things for the Mustang, perhaps?.?. Back in the 1990's, when the SHO's and Mustang GT's would race, it would have been a very close race, and that's with a stock V6 vs. a stock V8. I think some people should just be happy that they have a very nice car, that has great power, great fuel economy, great looks, and stop worrying about what other cars have for power. I can honestly say that if I were to race a new SHO and lost to them, I wouldn't be upset, it's more about the adrenaline rush and having fun!

good post, I guess you have to expect hp vs hp posts from people who aren't really 'carguys'. And carguys know it aint all about horsepower. It's about a car, it could be any car, but it's about a car or cars.

I'm jacked Ford has jumped into the race with the new SHO. I wouldn't buy one, but if my kids were all still small and still living at home fulltime (do they ever really leave, for good ?) I'd certainly look at it. Although even though I'm a Ford fan, I love that Pontiac G8.

Loving cars and the car lifestyle is what makes a carguy. Looking at another guys car and appreciating it for what it is, even if you may not like it personally is what it's about. I appreciate the SHO, heck I loved them back in the day when 220 hp was killer. I still like them, I'm proud to be a carguy.

Car Guy? Your Opinion, about a Car guy is your opinion, and you are welcomed to it. If you think a Hp Vs Hp thing is somehow not valid, then maybe you should have a V6 mustang instead of a GT.

I'm sorry I don't LOVE any car , even a Mustang, I love my Kid, My Wife , and My mother , but my car, I like.

That is until one waves at you while pulling away.

To the OP:
I just wanna reinforce the point made earlier about how the SHO comes with twin turbos and our cars are NA.

And the fact that you wrote off all the cars in post #16 because they have "wings and are featured in fast & the furious movies" just shows how ignorant you are because those cars run low 13s from the factory.
I'm not exactly sure what the other 3 run but I know the EVO and STi are 13 second cars. Which should be enough to beat both the SHO and Mustang, given that they're stock.

There wasn't any unnecessary Attitude. If you would read his post maybe you would agree that grammar check would be in order, ( here it is)
"Forst off it's not a P.O.S. it a twing turbo v6 ecoboost. 2nd it's not going to beat a mustang gt it weighs 4,000 lbs. 3rd a V6 camaro may beat your mustang but being all the stock mustangs i;ve seen run 13.7-13.8 mine included and a v6 camaro runs 14.3 I'll say what have you been watching."
And just were in my post is it grammaricly incorrect ? Or maybe you are having a unnecessary Attitude.

COBESGT
Has a 1991 car that runs 14.5 I'm guessing it doesn't have 365 hp.

Not that I'm trying to be the one with an attitude but I would have to agree with Gearbanger on this one. This is why:
"And just were in my post is it grammaricly incorrect ? Or maybe you are having a unnecessary Attitude."

were - I think you meant to say WHERE
grammaricly - This is not a word, I think what you were trying to say is GRAMMATICALLY
Or maybe you are having a unnecessary Attitude. - You should of used "AN" in front of unnecessary and I believe you should of ended the sentence with a "?".

So to sum it up, it's kind of like the kettle calling the pot black.

BTW - you are right, my 1991 doesn't have 365hp, it has 220 stock. But back in the day, these were great cars and even today some people are a little surprised to see that old POS is as fast as it is!

Well, for starters rather than address the points he made, you instead chose to get uppity with him for his spelling mistakes, sport a patronizing attitude and essentially dismiss anything he had to say with your “its gibberish” response. Grammar aside, his points were not only legible, but relevant.

2nd As far as your on grammatical errors are concerned…..since you chose to “nit pick” his post, you should be aware that in your own you used capital letters where there was no reason for them, you got comma happy within your sentence structure and you ended your last sentence with a period when you should have ended it with a question mark! As the matter of fact, the grammar in your response post to my initial reply is every bit as bad as the first one that you made to tommyroc!?!?! It’s no fun having your posts picked apart, is it?

Those who live in glass houses my friend.... ;)

3rd You created this thread to voice your opinion and to gather the opinions of others. Just because you may not agree with said opinions, doesn’t justify replying to them with a rude, condescending remarks.

4th Choosing to carry that attitude with your fellow members is bad enough, but doing so with me is going to get you into trouble. I suggest you tread lightly and carry on with a little more respectful attitude from here on out. Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself. If you don’t think you can respond to someone’s post in the same respectful manor that it is given, the elect not to do so at all. I hope this is clear!

This post by the way is not one that is open to debate on your part. A response is not necessary, nor is it required, but your cooperation in the matter is. Thank you. :)

Yes. A bunch of 4 door POS with wings, Ha Ha Ha , Probably watch Fast and furious 5 times.

"To say one car will win just because it has more horsepower is a very ignorant statement. " So don't say it. I said a 365 hp Taurus would beat a 305 hp mustang and it's not front wheel drive, it's all wheel drive.

i want you to race some of those cars, you'd be suprised at how quick they are, if not quicker then your mustang.

calling a Mitsubishi Evolution, a Subaru WRX, a Pontiac G8 GXP, a Mercury Marauder and a BMW M5 pieces of crap is the stupidest thing i've ever read.

hell, the only one that remotely sounds like a ricey car is an evo. Subarus have boxer motors, like porsches, G8 GXP has what, a 6.2 liter v8? mercury marauder has a dohc 4.6 with the same amount of power we have. BMWs sound unique as hell, but not anything like a rice rocket.

the evo and the wrx will be sitting there at the line bouncing off the rev limiter to launch and dead hook right away. G8 gxp has more power then us, and will run faster then us stock.

like i said, horsepower don't mean dick. you ever hear the joke whats the difference between a supra with 600 horsepower, 800 horsepower, and 1000 horsepower? nothing they all run 12s?

it depends on how the cars are set up, whos driving them, how much the car weighs, hell, where they are racing at has a huge effect.

have you ever drag raced your car? if so what did you run? full time slip if possible, if not 60ft, trap speed and et are good enough. also a modification list.

sorry if i come off as a dick, but i respect cars for what they are. i appreciate the hard work people put into their cars, and the different tastes people have.

hahaha, see my sig ? Obviously not.

It's not about loving 'a' car, it's the lifestyle, the hobby, the enthusiasm for the sport. It's talking about it and discussing it with other Mustang fans. Asking if this hood is nice, or if a big brake kit will fit under 18" wheels. It's searching for the perfect spoiler, or lowering springs, or fog lights. Hp is valid, but not the deciding factor. Handling, looks, personalization, customizing, all those are part of it. Not who can win a stop light drag race.

Sorry man, you're missing out. Save your money, buy a Hennessey Viper if that's all you are concerned with is hp and 0-60 times. Even then, there will always be someone faster, but I could care less about that.

It's been a while since anyone has called out GB in the S197 forums.

Indeed....although I'm feeling overly lenient today and choose one last attempt at diplomacy before doing anything rash. ;)

In any case, lets get back to the topic at hand....which I assume was justifying why a car like the Taurus SHO is saddled with more power than the Mustang.

Personally.....this isn't the first time that's happened. Luxury vehicles have often been saddled with an abundance of horsepower. Grand Prix GTP, Pontiac GTO, Mercury Marauder, Lincoln Mark VIII, Hemi powered Chrysler 300C's, the Oldsmobile Aurora, numerous Northstar Powered Cadillacs and more recently the Cadillac CTS, etc, etc. All that said, horsepower isn't the be-all end-all. Torque and more importantly torque in the lower ranges is what's going to be the deciding factor on how a car performs on the street. Especially when you consider the over all curb weight in must overcome and horsepower and torque multiplication loss of the all-wheel drive train of the vehicle in question.

What would be the sense in calling the Taurus an SHO if it still ran 17-second quarter mile times like the base model did in the 80's and 90's.

I believe that Ford originally planned to put that twin turbo v-6 in the Mustang to help them meet the average fuel economy goals set by Uncle Sam. Now it may put out more power than the current Mustang v-8 but to many Mustang buyers it will not sound right. We like the sound of a v-8 so that has to be considered, not just the horsepower output.

I guess I just don't like 4 doors. I don't much care to go around corners fast either. My first Mustang was a 1969 Mach 1 428 SCJ, Nascar 4 speed and a detriot locker with 4.30 gears. It had no power steering, no power breaks with drums all the way around, No AC, it would run 12.70 @ 119 mph. I don't like any of those cars for verious reason, some 4 doors and some GM. I like the idea of a ford with a V6 that has 365 hp , I just would be embarrassed if I was to race one and got beat.

sounds like an awesome car, betcha wish you still had that one eh ? :nice:

Fair enough. You don't like the four door cars, that's fine. You are entitled to your opinion, but it doesn't make them POS's. Especially when there are many 4 doors out there that not only mutilate the GT in a straigh line (and corners), they cost significantly more and are significantly nicer.

Another thing to think about... we're running an engine that was put out in current form in 2005 and its base originally developed for the 1996 (I think its the same base 4.6L anyway). The 3.5L ecoboost is much newer. Plus, while the 2010 Mustang has a slightly improved 315 hp 4.6L... let's not forget about the rumored 400 hp 5.0L for 2011 in the GT. Then GT vs. SHO is a no contest.
