yes you have to if you are doing red, if you dont it will barley show through i did it without sanding first and it didnt really work at all but then i took the cluster apart and sanded it and it worked great, the needles are a little hard to see but other then that the color is great

they look a lot better in person the hot spots don't really show up at all

Anybody that bought the speedhut overlays have finished install pics? I just ordered the black and red hvac set. Any issues? I bought a cheap set on eBay for a previous car and had issues with needles getting hung up.

Sadly we've seen a lot of that happen here. I think the guys who this happened to just left it. I don't think anyone found a cure...
