Anyone Else's Coyote Consuming Oil?

  • Sponsors (?)

Hi, I've got a 2013 gt I special ordered. It was. Built on June 18, 2012 so I'm entering my 3rd summer with it. She just turned 5000 miles. To date, I've noticed absolutely no loss of oil whatsoever.

FordCustSrvc,
Thank you for offering assistance, This is greatly appreciated and not the norm as I've never seen a manufactures rep involved and assisting forum members! I'm going to just see how this plays out for a bit as perhaps it's just the engine breaking in. I'm only at about 1,200 miles now and plan to take it to my local stealership for it's first service at 2,500 miles so I'll see if it's getting any better by then.

rumblee1,
Thanks for rubbing salt on my open wound :p That's awesome yours isn't consuming oil though congrats as not many people can say this which of course is the strange thing as why is there no consistency?

gotven0m,
I highly doubt this is a mustang owners reason for the issue as who the hell can control their foot from smashing down that vertical pedal? :p Definitely not my reason anyhow :D I'm very familiar with several proper break in methods of new engines (I bought 6 cars and 14 new motorcycles) and use heat cycles and don't baby them. The only engines I've found that consumed oil were the ones leaking, and as sad as it sounds they were always Fords, Torino/Bronco/Ranger...

Hey I'm new to the forum. Hello everyone. I wanted to chime in because my '14 gt is also consuming oil. Already added a quart at 3k miles. I have contacted the dealer and I was told that it wasn't anything to worry about but to keep an eye on it.

Just have to clarify something: it's impossible to NOT use any oil on these motors. The PCV will send oil out and in to the intake manifold to be regurgitated. A lot of people replace that line with a "catch can"/oil separator. You can then empty it out from time to time and see how much oil your block is sending directly in to the combustion chamber. American Muscle has them, they run $100-$130. They make them for both sides, but you really only need one for the passenger side.

Mine is a 2014. I called the dealer and they said Ford's standard is 1 qrt for 900 miles..

This must be the industry standard. I had a similar issue with a Chrylser product and was told this same thing by the service tech. HOWEVER, in my case it turns out that a valve seal was bad from the factory in cylinder #1...whole head had to be replaced after 50k miles due to the resulting damage. The point being that I wouldn't take this statistic to the bank. You'll never be totally home free with this kind of consumption.

BTW after 1800 miles my level is still at the top. However, I doubt that my engine has seen 4000 rpm yet....

Entered your 3rd summer with it? Then you've had it for going on 3 years and only put 5000 thousand miles on it? That why you haven't consumed oil...you don't drive her.

Mine has 51000 miles on it and is eating about 3 quarts between oil changes. I can actually smell oil burning sometimes at high RPMs. Not sure if its the crappy Motorcraft 5W-20 oil or what, but it is definitely burning oil. What year is your car? Mine is a 2011 built January 2011. Maybe there is a suspect batch of motors.

What's up guys I have a 2014 5.0 manual purchased new with 69 miles. First 1800-2400 miles my car consumed 2 quarts of oil
It is a daily driver so I take it easy on this car pre warm up car before every drive and from the day I bought the car I decided to change oil at every 2500 miles. First 20k miles I took it to a dealer near me in which they said drive it more and keep bringing it back to us,the place was under reconstruction so employees positions changed I ended up never going back there for other purposes, started taking it back to the place I got it from Fremont ford and they said they would monitor and test it before warranty, so now at 48k miles the car consumes 3qts before 750-900 miles, it's only gotten worse. Apparently today is one of the last steps before they make a warranty decision. Waiting on there response but will keep people informed

I bought my 2012 gt brand new and i took it into the dealer for my free oil change they told me I was 3 quarts short , even though I only had around 3500 miles on the car. Dealer said maybe they didn't fill it all the way from the factory. Since then I usually burn at least 3 qt every 5k miles. I always use mobile 1 5w20 and change my oil loyally at 5k. Car has 60k miles on it now and still consumes around 3 qts. Oh yea every once in a while I get the famous ticking sound smh

Sounds like my car

110,000 miles and still consuming 2-3 quarts of oil between changes. Still using 5W-20 full synthetic.

Starting to think Ford knew this was an issue and that is the reason for the 8-quart oil pan.

Hell, I just changed my oil after 8,000 miles (since the last oil change) because I checked the dipstick and it was bone dry (I measured 5+ quarts left in the motor during oil change).

I had an 85 gt with a 5.0 that went through a quart every 700 to 800 miles. Bought it used late in 87 from the old burlingame Ford. They wanted to charge me $175.00 for an oil change. They said they monitor oil usage after that.I screamed and bitched when I picked it up, they gave it back without charging me. I asked them did they do a cylinder pressure test to determine if Valves/ rings were problem. They said we don't do that, we change oil and monitor it. They even showed me a Ford official bulletin in a big book that stated 1 quart per 800 miles was normal. Rather than Ford issue a tsb bulletin to replace worn rings, they did this crud. I've owned 2 others an 86 with 186k that didn't burn oil, or my 82, same thing. My 85 either was broken in hard, and rings never seated, or had defective ring problem on 85 models. I now drive a 2000 expedition with s 5.4. I also use Mobil 1 5w30. My SUV does burn 1 quart about every 1000 to 1200 miles. Bought mine used it had 64k on it, it doesn't smoke. I have 85k now. On sale my Mobil 1 is $5.99 qt, I don't worry about it. Your oil consumption problem will be a fight if under warranty. Good luck.

My last oil change I used Mobile One 5-20 full synthetic and I haven't had any problem at all this time around. Every other oil change I'd be at least a full quart down between oil changes while using Motorcraft 5-20 full synthetic that the dealer provided.
