Hello Ryans67 and the group. You responded to a post some time ago regarding a Chicago Electric MIG welder (Harbor Freight Tools) wiring. I purchased an identical unit which was not equipped with a plug. In wiring the plug, I would like to ask a question similar to the inquiry that you responded to in the past. However, I am wiring to an existing three prong receptacle that was used for a "stick" type arc welder in the past. The three prongs are arranged in a ... center (vertical), a left (angled) and a right (angled) prong, typical for drier connections. I am wiring the welder lead to a drier cord (8 AWG) that will plug to the outlet. My welder is wired with 3 colored leads: White, Green and Black. I presume that the center prong on the recaptacle is ground, therefore, the green lead from the welder should be attached to the center strand of the 8 AWG drier cord with each of the other two (Black and White) to either of the 2 remaining leads of the 3 pronged outlet. Am I close?
