There is some slack inherent in the driveline. The clunk you are hearing from the rear is most likely the driveshaft moving a bit. Nothing to worry about. Good luck with your trans. I have zero problems with mine and I live in a cold weather climate. Car is a daily driver.

How much trouble are the auto guys having? The last auto I had was a '89 2.3L with AOD, and the tranny barely held up to that! I had to have it rebuilt at 90,000 miles. My friends '90 5.0 went thru at least 4 AOD's between '90 and '93. I don't know anything about the whatever it is, 470R something other? I don't know of any T-45's with problems. One of my cousins "crew" has a 99 GT with 120,000 miles of hard abuse, never serviced the rear end, tranny, brakes, etc. and had it's last oil change at 90,000 miles. It is stock with an h-pipe, and stock springs chopped off by 2 1/2 coils. No power adders. In first, floor from any speed and it spins, hits 150 in fourth, and can top it in 5th. The speedo was past the 150 mark. He stills runs 13.9-14.0's. No other GT I have drove will do this. I don't think he has gears, but if he does, we didn't put them in. Go figure. I guess some Mustangs are better made than others. Or, abused cars run better?

hmmmm

I had that 1 to 2nd bump in my 01 gt, but I also have the same bump in my T56 in my 03 cobra. When I rev it high it shifts smoothly, but on the street shifting normally, it is not smooth at all.

My 01 gt was the same. When i shifted at 3000+ rpms it would go in smooth, but lower revs and it would bump into gear. My Dad drove the car and thought it was just because it was so new and needed to be broken in. It never got any better though.

I don't know. Begining of May my car had 7000 miles(sat all winter), now i have 9400. These last 2400 miles i have beat the he!! out of the car. I don't understand it but the car is running better than ever.

Mine is notchy on the 1-2 shift when the car isn't fully warm, but once it is warm no problems regardless of outside temp. I don't powershift my stang when it's cold anyways so it is a non-issue for me. I don't want the dealer screwing it up worse.

I haven't had any problems with mine yet, thankfully. I have heard a clunk, 1-2, only when I push it hard and pop the clutch quickly. As long as the clutch is eased into gear properly I am fine. No troubles hitting 3rd at any RPM. Never had a problem with reverse.

GiddyUp!

:nice:

Went for a test-drive yesterday in a 2003 MGT with 60-miles on the clock (it turned 100-kms during the test drive...) and noticed a definite grind going into 2nd. Does it usually manifest itself so early in the life of the car or is this "normal" and the real problem will get much worse later?

Well, I got my car with about 60 miles on it and when it's just started up there is a clunk and occaisionally a grind when going into 2nd gear. The grind was very subtle though and nothing very big. You could hear and feel the clunk when going 1-2. It just had a feel of reluctancy to engage that gear.

I have about 1400 miles on the car now and I don't notice it getting any worse. When I start the car I shift slow and smooth until it warms up. When I do this it doesn't clunk as bad and I havn't noticed any grinds lately.

I would sometimes have the 1st to 2nd problem. But I took it in today to have it look at for 4th gear. It would grind bad going into 4th. They called me back yesterday and said that they are replacing the transmission.

tranny

I guess that I should have read this before I posted my? I bought my 02 with 8800K and noticed the grind between 1&2. I have heard a rumor that there is going to be a recall either from Ford or Tremec in the near future.
