I just bought a 97 gt vert w/ a little over 100k on the clock. I cannot spin my tires. its an auto but even when I go 1st and 2nf manually I cant seem to do it. WTF? I can spin tires on a front wheel drive 97 monte carlo! the tires are even on the bald side! is there a traction control that I dont know about? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

just to point out a few reasons why: 215hp, auto, vert, crappy heads. if you do a pi headswap you'll definatley be able to spin them. :D

I would think he would still be able to spin the tires. My friend can burn his tires apart and he has a stock 96 GT. Does the car run right? There has to be something wrong with it

I've heard a lot about the headswaps on the 94-98. I hear it's an awesome mod and helps it breathe a lot better, so it produces a lot more power. You'd definately be able to spin the tires then, but should be able to do it now.

I can spin the tires with my stock 2000 V6, which is 25 less horsepower and also an automatic. Any mustang can spin them because we're mustangs!

the tranny has the occasional shudder during slow accel, but when I punch it it shifts real tight. the rear end is a little sloppy, but nothing that should make a diff. Im gonna go and try right now again.

you dont have traction control, because they didnt start putting that in mustangs until 1999...

you should definetly be able to spin them, try going into a parking lot and turning the steering wheel all the way to one side...

or hold the brake while pressing the gas...

it will definetly spin.

I barked second going uphill today, and I think my clutch is starting to go. Are you sure you are putting the right amount of beating on your car. I'm betting you are so I would check to see if something is wrong, because even an auto-vert should be able to roast them. :nice:

I didn't used to be able to roast my tires on my 97 auto without power braking. I could chirp them, but no real peal out. After 4.10's, a transgo, exhaust & pullies I can burn the **** out of them & chirp every gear. 97's are just weak from the factory.

dont feel bad, my 02 gt dont seem to roast them that much either. i have a stick and the only way i can spin them WITHOUT droping the clutch is if im in first going very slow, then floor it. i mean to the floor i have to stomp on it. even then somtimes it wont do it but most of the time it does. i also have flows, cai, o/r x pipe, kn.

just tried and managed a chirp the first, and nothing on a slight incline. I have no reason to try while turning the wheel, a camry can do that. I also didnt try a brake stand, cause even w/ my 97 6 cyl monte, I could spin, even on brand new rubber. I know its due for a tuneup. badly. could that be it?

Possibly....throw some 4.10's in there while your at it.

Hey, kinda Off topic, but what was/is the 248A option? I've seena few guys with it and can't quite figure out what it is....

an auto 97 GT will not chirp 2nd no matter what. I never got mine to do it. Even after an o/r h pipe and flowmasters. Get a transgo shift kit and 4.10's and you'll be laying solid rubber when you hit 2nd. :D Do a head swap and you'll be chirping 3rd. Hell, mine'll chirp 3rd and i've still got the stock heads. :p

Uhm don't worry about it. Why do you want to spin tires?

Don't feel bad about it though if you can't, or learn to break a bit to do so.

I know I have a 2000 GT vert manual, and to really efficiently "roast" the tires I need to dump the clutch at 4000 RPM +. Even then, I'm not doing a stand still burnout, I am moving forward.

Or you could just wait until a rainy night to show off your burnouts.
