All right so what's the best crappiest radio to get then?????

OK, we all or most anyway tore the crap out of the Custom Auto sound radios in the last thread we had. I really want the wife to get me a new set up for Xmas, but what the hell are the options?????????

Someone posted a link To John's Mustang site, and there are other brands to choose from, but is anything any better than the CAS crap?

http://johnsmustang.com/Catalog-2446.html

The Jensen doesn't seem bad, and it can be mated to a 12 disc kenwood CD changer, all for under $370 (only 40 watts though). I always thought jensen was supposed to be cheap though. Of course growing up I thought Kenwoods were supposed to be great but that's not what I hear lately. They do have the original obsolete Kenwood that CAS has now knocked off apparantly down at the bottom of the list, and there is also a JVC to choose from. Can anyone either say something good or bad about the other choices, or at least give a two bit opinion on which you would choose from this list if you had too? :bang:

LMAO!

The question is really well put, Pak. :p
Wish I had a good answer for ya.

Well, what do you have Blake? And if you had to, what would you choose from that link?

What are you putting it in?
and do you want to do any cutting?

Well it aint going in my 1958 Snowblower that's for sure.
Sorry, it's going in the 69'.
I prefer not to cut, but I guess I'm not opposed if it were just the faceplate since I can easily get a new one and mine is a bit beat anyway.
Actually I am considering this more and more since I really don't need a changer. A single self CD option is fine for my amount of use, but I want a tape player too since alot of my homemade classic rock is still on tapes.

I have a crappy, decade old CAS POS. It was in the car when I got it. When the time comes to get a new stereo, I will most likely get a regular Pioneer or something like that (I've had good luck with Pioneer products) with a remote and put it in the glove box. I'll put the stock AM in its stock location, or block it off instead.

I have all Pioneer stuff in the Stang. Single CD deck(DEH-P4100), 3.5" in the kick panels, and 6x9s in the package tray. I don't even have an amp on mine. It sounds good and can be heard over my fairly loud exhaust

They have single CD players that also play MP3 files burned onto a CD-R. Thay way you could get 5 hours of music on a single CD. Might even be worth copying your cassettes to MP3

this sounds like a decent option if you ask me.

in case you missed that one before.

Blaupunkt used to be really good stuff (LOOOOOOOOOOONG TIME AGO) but I don't know about them anymore. But maybe you can get the bezel without the cd player. Then you could add anything you want.

I have always liked Pioneer, sound great, good clean power but their displays SUCK. I have a few JVC head units that are light on looks but sound great, again good clean power. I have a Clarion CD player that looks awesome but doesn't sound that good when compared to the JVCs for a given amount of power. Panasonics look nice, sound good but tend to overheat when driven too hard. You can't really go by the WATT ratings of a head unit. They are all made up numbers anyway. If power means that much get an external amp.

Anyone have suggestions for door speakers in a '66. The original speakers were 4x8 (I think) nobody makes a speaker this size anymore. If they do, it proabably blows.

I thought of dropping a single 6" in there and make a custom bracket but I'm not sure there is enough room with the window mechanism. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Having redone my doors this year, adding power windows & locks, etc. I can tell you there isn't enough room for a decent speaker in the doors. It wouldn't be worth hacking the door to fit a crappy speaker. You'd be better off with the kick panel speakers

I just got a really nice Alpine MP3/WMA/CD for the Nissan. It replaced Last years top of the line $700 Kenwood POS that took a sudden crap. This thing was less than 3 months old and it just died.

I used to be a Kenwood loyalist until they screwed me. They would not fix it. They said that it was caused by me. The face and the Unit were not connecting properly. I guess that is my fault that they cannot build $700 stereos that the pieces fit together on.

The Alpine is awsome though.

My Stang has factory AM in it. I have no plans to change that either.

I have a JVC head unit in my 65. 6 inch speakers in custom kick panels, (2) 6x9's in the rear deck, (2) 6x9's in the trunk facing the rear seat with a 300 watt amp. Speakers are all Pioneer. Sounds great!

I've got a Kenwood MPV-7019 in my 69 coupe. CD/Mp3, comes in handy. I like it a lot. I think the only thing I'd get over it would be one of the higher Alpines. Don't like Pioneer, but it's just a preference thing, not anything with a basis.

As opposed to what GP said, in a 69 I've got pretty nice speakers in the doors (I didn't cut it, the PO did). The only problem is the position. They end up right next to the seats, makes balancing a bit interesting. Anyway, I've got some Diamond 6.5s. They sound BEAUTIFUL.

The rear is a work in progress. I'm thinking Eclipse 6X9s in the package tray and maybe a single 10 in. sub in the trunk (at some point).

I've also toyed with the idea of sticking a 5X7 in the original speaker spot (under the dash) and wiring it through both the left and right front channels.

For a 66, just go with the kickpanel ones. Just buy the premade kick panels with the speaker holes, and if you want to fit a better speaker in there, my friend actually did a VERY nice fiberglass and vinyl job to build them up. He fits MB Quart PCEs in there (so the stereo gurus know what I'm talking about).

The speaker-cut kick panels stock won't take anything more then a low/mid range 6.5 speaker, not enough clearance for the magnet until you hit sheet metal.
