Best mod for $500...

Hmm... this could depend on what the car is being built to do.

Me? Drag racing. So, cost of labour [to install said part] not included? Just $500 to buy parts on a bone stock car?

Gears. MT ET Drags.

Those two alone will knock probably a second off its otherwise stock ET if you apply stern beatings to it :canflag:

Most definetly with $500 bones you should get some gears. Whether they be 3.73's or 4.10's they will make a world of difference like night and day. Then with your left overs you could savw up for some heads or something like that.

first off i just wanted to give props to 85 SS 302 Coupe. And also for 500 bucks you can get alot. i got my 17" 077s, off road x, flowmaster catback and underdrives for a total of $148. (Sold old 17"s for 325, traded old catback for a PS2 and sold that for 200, got underdrives off ebay for 38, sold old h-pipe for 75.) doesnt get much better then that, do far the only thing i paid for with my own money is the xpipe and the soon to be gears

You can find great deals but you have to have the money ready and MOVE when you find them. I got my Explorer intake, Explorer 65mm TB and the Explorer 19# injectors (Design III Bosch that actually flow 21-23#) for $200. Then I found NMRA Factory Stock professionally prepped low-pass GT40P heads, NMRA prepped MAC "P" head shorties and Scorpion 1.6 roller rockers all for $1,000.

We put GT40P's, dual valve springs, and a comp cams hydro roller on my friends 5.0 for under $500. Now gears dont matter, cause torque dosen't care what gears you have :D Ok Im joking a little with a puny 3" stroke and all but still you get the point. He payed $210 out the door for the assmebled pair of new gt40P heads, and like $150 for the cam, another $100 for the springs.
