Paint my interior?

I'm sure someone here has done that - I'm pretty sure of seen pictures of someone's car with painted interior parts. Personally...I'd be really hesitant to paint those plastic panels. I'd be nervous about getting good adhesion. Your odds of not having flaking, peeling, cracking paint not too far down the road are not real good. You're going to need to do SOMETHING to prep the surface, and because those panels always have some kind of texture to them, the amount of sanding, etc., that you can do without affecting the look, or doing it unevely from one to the next, is kind of critical. You're also going to have little room for error. Each coat fills in the texture a bit - if you have to remove some, you're going to leave some in the low spots and change the appearance of that panel. If I WERE going to do it...I'd be sure to use good paint designed to be mixed with a flex agent to help alleviate cracking and peeling. I wouldn't count on your average spray can stuff. I'd be inclined to try to find some other, more reversible, way to accent the interior. Of course, if you can find spare parts at a salvage yard for a reasonable price, you could try it on them, and if you like the results swap them in. Then you've still got the originals to go back to, or still in place if it all goes to hell. Have fun!

Goto www.mustangworld.com they have interior door trim and other interior stuff. It actually is like a vinyl material, no paint so if you dont like it your not screwed.

I personally think it looks a little ricey, but if you must Krylon now make paint specifically for plastic. Check your local home center. They should have it.
Cool thanks for the opinions...i might just paint the trim where the door handle is and leave the rest alone...I just thought i would get some opinions prior to doing anything.
BTW - leather is out of the question...I don't know what it is but i hate leather seats. I know its goofy, but when i bought the stang i wanted every option but leather.

If you want a different interior color, I HIGHLY suggest ordering some Mach 1 interior trim pieces instead of painting (they should fit a 96-98). I painted my interior a silver metallic color. I painted the door bezels, center console piece, shifter bezel, and gauge bezel. I prepped, primmed, and clearcoated. I was very careful and very meticulous. The result was great.....for a few weeks. The problem is that the plastic used on the trim pieces just can't be painted. After a while, the paint began to rub of and fade. It looked HORRIBLE. I repainted and got the same result soon after. I finally just reordered the door bezels and ordered the Mach 1 interior trim peices that already come painted silver. It looks GREAT now

I have the same color interior on my 96 ... it is white. I painted the door arm rests white. At first I was not sure how it would look, but I like it now. When I get home I will post a pick so you can see the black/grey interior with a white painted door pull.

Looks good the way it is. I've got a gray interior also but the door panela are all gray too, no black inserts. Maybe you should try that change first. I changed the interior color from black to gray in my old '93 5.0 coupe and let me tell you, that paint will never stick. If anything scrapes it the paint comes of and when that happens you can't just paint over it because the surface isn't smooth. I would stay as far away from this as I could.
