GT vs Cobra vs WS6

Also, I have always had automatics so my skill with a clutch is, uh, not to promising.

Hey, these days driving a stick is pretty easy. I learned 5 years ago in my wife's saturn (then girlfriend). BTW she drives a Stang now...she was easy to convert.

I bought my Mach1 this summer and after not driving a stick in 3 years, just jumped right in and was crusin' my grinnin' a** off. :D

...and the insurance was cheaper than the Cobra.

Let us know what you get!

I agree with 02LS1. You have to go drive all the cars your interested in. Then you have to decide what you want in performance. Then you go to respectable messageboards and see what others experienced in modding their cars and cost. Then make your decision. This isn't something you just jump into.

well i drove a mustang and a ws6 on lunch break    biggest **** eatin grin in the world right now. trans am had crazy power. it was a real beast. drove the auto, salesman wasn't too happy when i got all sideways under throttle around a turn :rlaugh: :nonono: :nonono: :rlaugh: inside was comfy, but i see what you mean. i could nto see didly. wouldnt have seen a 747 if it landed on me. the mustang was shweeeeet! red w/ black stripes ( it was a 04 ) 5 speed. it was just badda$$. wasnt in the power dept of the trans am, but it beat it everywhere else. comfortable, good visibilty, and it just looked mean. i suck with a cloutch so i didnt get into it at all, just puttered. they had 3000 rebate and with the x plan from siemens and my trade in i had it down to 18,000. Not too shabby. I may get it over a 99, we'll see. Be nice to be under factory warranty. looks like i am a mustang man. :nice: :nice: it'll take a fw monthss to gt everything lined up, but i loiked thestang better. :D

I got an 03' GT and I love it. I just wish I had test driven an LS1 before I got the GT. Im kind of afraid to test drive one now just in case I happen to like it better. But the main reason I got the GT was I wanted a new car, not used. I just hope the LS1's don't feel that much faster once I drive one.

well then dont drived one. the LS1 feels like a caged animal. even behind the auto it felt like it wanted to leap through the hood. you can thank an extra liter of displacement for that. stock to stock the car is much faster. but the mustang is more of a drivable car and highher quality overall. (except this manual issue i am hearign about ) i couldnt see a train if it was baout to hit me in the trans am. maybe its just different. i got time to test drive soem more, but on first impression the mustang seems more practical for what i need, a car with gobs of power that i can drive safely everyday in traffic, to work, to school, and state to state. not to mention i could have had an 04 for 18,000$ today if i had my credit and ducks in a row. the trans am was 30,000 :nonono: :nonono: :nonono:

The only thing that pops into my head was the shifter location...too far up for me. I think I almost had to lean forward to get it into or out of 1-3-5, I could've lived with it though.

hehe...Good, so I'm NOT crazy. I think the shifter is too far away also. I LOVE the position of the shifter on the FBody's. You can rest your arm on the console and shift. I wish Ford would do that for the mustangs....

I really hope you test drive a Cobra before you make your decision... If you are not going o buy the Ws6 really jump on the cobra especially an 01 or so and you will be really close to the power of an LS1 and have the Comfortness of a mustang

I used to own a 96 SS camaro LT1 nice car but the insurance was way to much... my broker told me that just because it was an ss it would be more than a C5... forget that sold it and now I am happy with my 89 Notch..

Also the Camaro was rather uncomfartable but obviously got alot of attention...

Cobra all the way... please send feedback on what u decide or at least after u drive the Cobra...

Having owned and driven many blue oval and bow-tie performance cars, my recomendation would be the WS6 - especially if you decide to get an automatic. The LS1 pulls an automatic transmission much better than the little 281 cubit motor. The GM pony car in stock condition handles better than the GT but not a good as the Cobra.

Yup.

You shouldnt eliminate the GT from your list of choices too fast. It is a very comparable car to the Ls1 Camaro. My wife has a 98 Z28 and I'll admit it has some serious pull, but my 01 GT isnt that far behind. They are both very nice choices and will get you comparable insurance rates. Personally I like the drivability of the mustang. It gives a much smoother ride and is more comforatable to sit in.

i would get the cobra..then the ws6..then the gt, i love gt's as i am a brand new owner of one. (02 gt vert 5spd) and i love it..smooth ride, quality, but the power isnt even close to my 98 z28 6spd vert..ive raced my cousin's 02ss and he is stock with exhaust..and he murders me..but his car also does 12.9@109 with just exhaust & lid...my z was running [email protected] with just lid, exhaust, and ram air system. Obviously you can make anything fast and the GT needs a Power Adder to compete with a modified LS1..unless the driver is plain horrible..but i replaced about 5 window motors in 3years, rack & pinion went out, a/c went out( this also happened to my friends 99 ws6), a bunch of strange noises from the rearend, clutch replacement a few times, and the seats plain suck..everything about the car's quality sucks..only plus is POWER & Looks (if you add rims and lower it)..i'd personally go for the cobra. get the GT if you plan on adding a S/C..get a ws6 if you want to be able to beat a 03 cobra with under $1200 of mods...ls1's take nos very well:)

i go for the

mustnag gt in your situation get the gt and spend 10,000 diffrence on getting blower+bolt ons= about 500 rwhp <--- with 10,000 to spend 500 rwhp you will be able to get. alone with just your kenny bell supercharger you will able to get 400 rwhp thats about 5000 for the kit 1000 for instalation and tune job leaves you 4 grand take the 4 grand before you get the blower and ad every bolt on you can afford new intake new exhaust new gears new suspension and e few other things like that when you bolt on the s/c you should make 500 safe on the engine rwhp. well good luck. :nice:
