I recently purchased an S281 3 piece wing for my 2003 Cobra through Speedworx. I took the wing to a local body shop this afternoon to have them paint it, however, the wing did not come with any instructions on how to mount it and what to use.

Is there anyone that has put this wing on their Cobra yet? If so, did you have to drill additional mounting holes for the wing other than the two that are already predrilled? What did you use to mount the two side pieces to your car?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe :nice:

Subscribing.

Use double sided tape to put the "sideburns" on. But I can't help you on the rest of the install, sorry.

If you don't mind my asking, how much was it to get it painted? How was the quality of the wing? Saleen has a reputation for selling poor quality piece's.

Please post some pics when you are done. One of these days I will be getting this wing.

I bet that spoiler will look good. I had the S281 spoiler on my 99 Cobra vert. I decided to go with the Steeda spoiler for my 03.

If I remember correctly, the side peices are put on with double sided tape, and the main peice is bolted on. Did you order your Cobra with the stock stumpy wing? That thing comes with 8 bolts, so that will need to be filled.

Hope this helps.

I'm just about positive the Saleen wing will cover the holes left over from the 03 Cobra spoiler.

You are probably right. Before bolting it on, the best thing to do would be to lay the S281 spoiler on the trunk after removing the old one just to make sure.

You would probably need some kind of plugs for the holes though, otherwise whenever you washed the car, or it rained, you will get water in your trunk.

Yes, I would also suggest "test fitting" the Saleen wing before getting it painted.

Depending on where the holes are, you may or may not need to plug them up.

I have just fitted mine and it took me 2 tries on each of the sideburns and 2 additional rolls of 3m super double sided tape. its a bear getting the trunk line and front edge. helps to have 2 more hands. Saleen supplied mine with 2 nylok nuts and allen headed studs.

try again

are these pics on an 03 cobra?

shhhh... i'd hate to get boot first thing for being in a room i'm not supposed to be in ......

actually the install should be the same on all model deck lids. Saleen only used the 2 bolt holes closest to the deck line ...these pics are a little dull but i'll shoot some in the sun.

Nope, he has a V6. :nonono: :jester:

mxd_pony- So you taped down the sideburns already? It is going to be a pain in the ass to get them off now to be painted. Believe it or not, double sided tape is very stong. So where did you order your wing from? I am probably going to go with Speedworx.

Sam- I think I just made my mind up. Time to order a Saleen wing.....especially since it looks I will be saving about $200 from something else. :nice:

Like I had said not once but twice on and off.... Couldn't get the alignment right and yes that is some strong stuff (3m) after numerous runs up to team ford to eye the Saleens I was still undecided if the look for me would be right so the only way was to mount it before shelling out the 2K for paint and deciding i didn't like it.
mine was an ebay find ...and everything was properly marked and identified. the bigger problem is the brake light so far.

Now for the fun stuff :rlaugh: ... yes it is but i'm not doing the replica thing. the saleen wing just appealed to me for the sleaker line ... it does have a complete Kenny Brown package as well as the brake upgrades and some performance mods. it might not be able to get out of it's own way but damn can it do a chicane .....

Joe I'm not sure if you still need the help, but I can help because I installed the S281 wing on my yellow "03 convertible. You do not need to do any additional drilling and you need to mount the side pieces with 3M tape.
