I just got mine yesterday. I wanted to open it up to check it out but on the box it says it's sealed to protect against corrosion and not to open til ready.

SO what's inside?

Clutch
Pressure Plate
Throwout Bearing

ANything else? Would there be clutch-to-flywheel bolts or the clutch disk alightment tool?

All I got with mine was the clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. I ordered mine through D and D Performance so I don't know if anyone else's is different.

I bought one from Mustang's Unlimited in CT a couple years ago. That's all I got in my kit. And another thing I noticed was that the disc was made by a company called "Valeo" which also re-manufactures clutch kits for AUTOZONE?! Hmmmm....makes me wonder... :(

heh, the autozone clutch ownz, a guy i know has been running one for about 3 years on a 89 with afr heads vortech charger( think either t or y trim) on drag radials. pretty amazing i think

oh, my buddy bought one, he got the throwout bearing, pressure plate, and disc, didn't get an alignment tool either, we had to use the broken input shaft from his T5

on a serious note, about the king cobra being 'junk', i don't know how good they are, i always thought they were fairly decent....

however, just 5 months ago, my same buddy pulled his engine to rebuild it and his clutch was cracked in 2 spots....., kinda scary, it actually would shake a bit if you shook it....

imagine a 6k powershift??, makes me shiver....
we don't drive our cars 'easy' by any means, but then again, who does?

somthing to think about....., i'm sure its uncommon, but still....
BTW, a low 14 second car, 2.0 60' times, 98 mph traps....

Valeo makes the clutches for Ford. Both of my king cobras were made by them. Pretty decent for a daily driver IMO. Not too hard on the leg.

I roasted one with an oil leak, and the other is still in my car after about 45,000 miles.

I just got finished with my new clutch install - Spec stage one - good up to 400hp. I heard nothing but good things about them. It came with friction disk, pressure plate, t/o bearing, pilot bearing, alignment tool. I also got a new steel flywheel that came with both a 25oz and 50oz weight in case I trade up to a 351.
If it doesn't have a pilot bearing you should get one, and also do the rear main seal while you're in there.

Oh yeah - no flywheel bolts - get those from Ford.

Already got new FLywheel bolts, a flywheel, rear main seal and now the clutch. Gotta pick up a pilot bearing. WHo makes the best one? Should i just get a stock Ford replacement?

In case you want to know, i'm doing an AOD-t-5 conversion.

I've never heard anyone complain about the King Cobra kit, but then again I've never had any complaints about my SPEC Stage 1, either. :)

As far as the "Valeo" pressure plate goes, don't worry about it! It's a true quality part (was in the SPEC kit, too) -- It's really the clutch disc that you're paying for. Consequently, you're far better off than the Autozone kit.

Yeah I just installed the King Cobra clutch so far so good only had it in for 2 weeks. The kit came from Mustang Unlimited, it came with clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and alignment tool. Now like everybody else says replace the rear main seal, pilot bearing and get the flywheel resurfaced. Good luck with the installation.

there is nothing wrong with valeo clutch's, anyone who blows one apart is probably using slicks or way too much hp for the clutch.or had a oil leak onto the clutch. I have used many in cars many brands and never had a problem..... Mine came with a alignment tool, but mine came in the valeo box was 40$ cheaper for the same clutch...

you can buy a stock cast replacement if your worried for 100$ through summit..even alot of napa's will turn, brakes/flywheels, you can check that out.. I know my dealer used napa to cut a few flywheels before..I don't know the spec...
