Broken sway bar

My swaybar broke about 2 months after I bought my car back in 2001....I just got the OEM replacement swaybar which is supposedly a better piece since it's solid and not hollow like the old one...

Where did yours break?Mine broke right by the attaching point on the control arm on the drivers side.

This is something that should of been replaced under a recall. Ford knew the design was flawed so they updated it with a solid version. It wasn't soon after I bought my 96 that mine broke and I replaced it with the updated version. Its a fairly common problem, I have also replaced one on 94 cobra. Broke at the same place where it attaches to the lower control arm.

I have a broken rear sway bar from a nice hard launch.

Too bad I cant fix it under re-call, nothing is stock.

The problem is that there is no recall. Ford recalls a lot of junk that rarely has problems, yet when it comes to the mustang they don't care. Say if this rear sway bar problem was on the explorer I guarantee they would have a recall.

Heh..i agree with you there.I think i will just go with a D&D roll bar or something.Maybe it will help with the launces with slicks.Anything is better than broken stock!!

There are recalls, & then there are Technical Service Bulletins. There are a lot of poorly designed parts out there that get redesigned, but not recalled. Another Ford problem part I can think of is the 4.6 SOHC intake manifold, the plastic coolant runners crack & split open from the heat cycling (seems like an obvious DUH). Ford has a redesigned intake with cast aluminum coolant passages instead of plastic, but the car owner foots the bill for replacement.

I had that happen on my wifes 97 thunderbird.I was driving down the road and it started getting hot and the low water light came on.Pulled into a gas station and sure enough, the intake was leaking. As it turns out, there was a recall on it and the ford dealer came and towed the car and replaced it all for free.

Ford has different types of recalls. Ones they make public and have cars come in for or ones that I would call silient that are only replaced when there is a parts failure. I know there was a recall on the 4.6 2v intake because I replaced tons of them under the recall. It may be vehicle specific though, I'll check on it tomorrow when I go back to work.
