Why do people delete their spoilers? Aren't they functional?

I was told that Y2K R wing IS functional above 150mph, as well as front splitter. But don't know much about stock spoiler. I think it is more for looks.
Now I do wonder about how functional is S-281 wing...

Gonna take mine off on mine because with it, looks like a 6cyl. Why did Ford put the same spoilers on GTs and 6cyls. :nonono:

probably because it was cheap to make and it jacks the price up on both cars.. also it would be faster to punch of the same trunk lids and spoilers and put them on both cars rather than make different ones

When i took mine off i noticed that it does have the shape of a wing that is upside down. So with direct air flow i could see bernoulli's principle working with the stock wing. However i belive most of the airflow is going over the top of the wing and not under it so whatever insignificant amount of downforce it would make is lost.

Yup, I wouldn't count on a stock wing providing much down-force. It's pretty much for looks. On my 2000 GT I moved the wing back and I think it looked good. Personally I don't like the look of a wingless Stang.....kind of screams V6 to me. My current wing to me almost makes my car look wingless. That's why I am buying a Saleen S-281 wing.

If you want down-force, see speeds over 100, or race your car, I would suggest getting a 2000 Cobra R wing. It may be too ricey for some, but it does serve a purpose.

Yeah...good thinking. It definetly won't look like a 6cyl if you take the spoiler off. Ford didn't make any 6cyl mustangs without a spoiler.

 :nonono:

I see 6 cylinder Mustangs w/o a spoiler every day. I parked next to one and looked at the rears of both. I decided that I like the look better with the useless spoiler.

I tried it on mine (a 96 vert) for a while but I didn't really like it. Maybe if it was lowered and had wide tires in the back it would have been better. Now I have a shinoda wing and I love it. Check my sig for pics if you are interested. There's a pic in there wingless too.

I like the wingless look on a lowered stang with real wide tires in back. I have seen two and they were awesome. Otherwise, I think it looks wrong.

I like the spoilerless look on the 99-04 stangs. If I had ordered my Cobra, it would have been spoilerless. I am all about functionality, and I don't see much function in any of the Mustang spoilers except the Cobra R.
I just hope they keep all the dang fake scoops and useless wings off the 2005+ stangs.

man you guys seem to be shafted with the spoilers
the little spoiler on my car will reduce aerodynamic drag AND cause negative lift (AKA downforce)
kinda funny

mind if I get a pic though cause I can't recall what they look like off the top of my head

The base (and I mean base) Mustang 6 cyl doesn't have a wing. They're just pretty rare, as most people spring for at least the deluxe version (with one).

I can't say I like my wing, but I don't mind it either. I figure since the 1960s, Mustangs have had fake styling cues like that, so no harm done. After all, I've never heard anyone complain about the fakery on classic Mustangs...

If I could afford to have the holes filled and painted properly I would take my spoiler off in a heartbeat. I think GT's look sweet without them. Gives them a real wedge shape. I guess it depend on what look your going for though. I prefer the clean and simple look myself.

i debated on the wingless look, but i wen to the opposite side of the field and got the steeda wing. when i got it looked huge i was scared, but once it was on the car it looks so bad ass. this wing does provide a little better stability at high speeds, enough that i could tell. the stock don't do anything, just looks take it off if you likr the look .

Took mine off for several reasons. Many of which are mentioned here. However, in reality it provides DRAG not down force, there's a difference. I run open track and autocross and have seen 120+ down some straights. The rear end stays just fine. Pics/vids available if necessary. You want down force, get a spoiler, then a wing.

very nice car :nice:

spoiler or wing, its not going to provide anything until you hit top speed, plus i think your car looks awesome without it :)
