Why do people delete their spoilers? Aren't they functional?

The spoilers that are on these cars have no benefit whatsoever (excluding the Cobra R, which is tuned all the way around), and are purely styling driven. In fact, a true spoiler's only job is to disrupt the slip stream behind the vehicle. It has nothing to do with down force. The little upsweeps in the sheet metal of some cars act the same way. Wings are a totally different animal.
And I just laugh when I see these guys running around town with these huge aluminum double-decker wings and no suspension or ground effects. Hilarious!
Form follows function I say, and that's one of the reasons I took mine off.
Now if your vehicle is completely setup for sustained high speeds, then a wing is essential, along with everything else you need for handling.

And here it is...

Thanks, but I'm one of the few that likes his spoiler so I'll keep it. If some of you like that hi-tech hooptymobile look with 4 cheesy plugs sticking out of your deck lid, more power to ya! Why don't you pull off both side scoops and the hood scoop while you're at it? ... they're only cosmetic too. Then you can go around the car and fill-in the rest of all those holes with plastic plugs to match the ones in your deck lid. :nice:

Used zinc bolts, washers, and nuts. Looks kool, to me.

I do have a 1995 Cobra R hood (no more fake hood scoop). Waiting for the paint to evaporate, then I'll Zaino it and install it.

Someday, the fake side scoops will go as well.

Cheesy plugs are not the standard form here. With the ability to fill the holes and some minor paint the spoiler can be literally shaved. However, the easiest form of resolving this issue is to find a donor v6 car on the road or in a junk yard. Thanks for your input as it's elevated this thread greatly. However, your thoughts on removing and "plugging" other areas does cause a bit of thought. If one really wanted to do those things simply replacing the side scoops with Bullitt scoops and the hood scoop w/ a standard or Cobra hood would be an alternative as well. All those things combined would make for a very slick looking car. I realize you attempted to be sarcastic and funny, you failed. Instead you've unwittingly created a good looking car. It's truly ironic how your insignificant and poorly articulated attempt at derrogatory humor could have such an out come. Definately a conversation started for the next philosophy class you attend.

Well I'm sorry you have no sense of humor and I'm aware you don't have to use plastic plugs or stainless bolts, etc. ... that's the easy way out. I'm glad you told me how to go about it the right way since I didn't already know that. You really elevated my knowledge so thank you and I'm glad I was such a good contribution to this thread. When I enroll for my next philosophy class I can only dream of having a teacher as bright as yourself.

Unless you're rich, the cost of filling the holes (vs. plugging the holes) is not worth it. I also like my paint to match on my car.

As far as V6 donors go, I still haven't seen a V6 owner say "hey, I want a wing.......let's trade". When they found out that (some) of us thought it was cool not to have one......they realized they already had a good thing going.

There's no question that the "right" way to do it IS to get a V6 trunk lid......everyone in this forum knows that.

The current body style looks WAY better without a wing IMO. I took mine off the first day I had the car. My car is black and I used flat, black plastic "plugs" to fill the holes. The same type that holds your hoodliner on. Most people do not even notice it.

i was reading somewhere that if the spoiler or wing is not even with or above the roofline it will make no difference on the mustangs, it just causes drag. it's just the way they were designed. they're not very aerodynamic cars, and though the 2005 looks cool, i think they should have improved the weakpoints of the stang and made the fashion functional.

I love the Cobra wing, and I think it takes someone with balls to put one on your daily driver. You'll get positive feedback from people who know what the R is and negative feedback from those who think its just a park bench sitting on your trunk. I think you should also have the front splitter to help even out everything.

Ha I had that exact same year and color mine was a GXL though is yours??

man you guys seem to be shafted with the spoilers
the little spoiler on my car will reduce aerodynamic drag AND cause negative lift (AKA downforce)
kinda funny

mind if I get a pic though cause I can't recall what they look like off the top of my head
