Torque box reinforcments

Well, its about time for me to do something about my stock torque boxes before I rip them out of the car. Thanks to the "soon to be installed" Ed Curtis combo and my slicks, I don't think they're going to last much longer. My question is, would either of these work? I was checking eBay and these looked like about the only guys selling them. Anyone know if they're good or not??? Thanks.

They look good.. Rick91GT here on the board sells a nice kit. I bought mine from him

I bought some off ebay but haven't put them in yet. They looked ok.
As long as the welds are decent, they should be fine.
I've welded up my boxes already, but you can't have enough reinforcement there.

Will it help much if you just bolt them in? Or is it something like subframes where its almost needed to be welded in to notice anything? If I could just bolt them in, then I will probably get them, since I am going to have more power soon. Or maybe I could get them welded in when I get my subframes welded in. I don't know, what do you guys think?

Another vote for Rick91gt, he makes a sweet set out of stainless steel for around $80-$90. I bought one set from him and gave them to a buddy, need to get of my ass and send him some $$ for another set for my car, his are bolt in (can weld is so inclined) and come with sweet instructions including pics. Do a search on his username, but I believe he's [email protected] or something close to that.

I just got some from ebay several weeks ago. They were from UMI Performance and everything looked really good. Like said, the welds looked excellent and looked very strong peices. I also got the upper kit from them and the quality was awsome for the price. I payed $145 for the entire kit and I was happy with what I got and would suggest them to everyone if you are looking to get some supports.

My vote goes for the ones at www.mentaladdictionmotorsports.com/tbrpics.htm I bought his set for $99/shipped for both uppers and lowers. They are fine pieces and the fit is great. THe uppers are CNC machined and the lowers are precision TIG welded with big 3" gussets. They all come with grade 8 hardware and the lowers alone are $39/shipped.

My personal suggestion if you want to get the maximum out of these is weld all the edges after you bolt them in. The big 3" gussets make all the difference in the world when it comes to maximum support.

Btw, IMO, i am sure stainless is much stronger, yet not necessary unless you car runs lows 8s with a stick!!

There is really no room to weld in the lower support structure and get any decent penetration. The only plate that truly can be fully welded in is the top plate located under the rear seat, not necessary but it does help.

I also fully weld all the stock seams, so far I have never had an issue on my car or any customers car I have installed them in. New upper rear design is under way, totally different then anything available.

The issue with mild steel is RUST, unless you paint them often, PIA to me.......

Stainless steel TBRs are awesome. Sometimes you just don't need them though. Its the buyer's choice. The guy I got them from sells the uppers for $69/shipped and lowers for $39/shipped or $99/shipped for both. They do have to be painted. You have to strip the paint off the factory boxes to weld the seams. While you are painting that area after you have welded it then paint the TBRs. Its that simple.
