dumb rear sway bar question...

I've been meaning to ask this since last summer when I put in my springs but I forgot till now. This is going to sound pretty dumb, BUT... the 2000 V6 did come with a rear sway bar, right? Cause when I was installing my lowering springs this past summer I came to a part in the how to that said to loosen and remove my sway bar... I looked... and looked... and couldn't find one. I installed the rear springs without ever finding it. Is it hidden or something and could my springs have been put in without me removing it? I bought my car used so I'm wondering what the heck could have happened that the sway bar would have been taken out. I had the door fixed this summer (rust in apparently previous body work) and the front bumper has always been really messed up. So as near as I can tell, the previous owner wrecked it, fixed what he felt like and sold the car. That doesn't make me real happy but there's really nothing wrong with the car... yet. The absence of a sway bar perplexes me though.

No the V6 mustangs do not have a rear sway bar, and no you could not have removed the springs without removing the sway bar.

On a side note, you can get a Cobra Sway bar for it bolts directly up and the strongest I found is off the 98's. That is what I have!

Good, good, I'm happy to hear that. I never like finding out something is wrong with my car 2 years after I bought it. :D
But yeah, regardless of whether my car was supposed to have one or not, I was looking into buying one anyway. Did you notice a difference in how your car handled after you put yours in?

LsRedy2Kstang when you put a cobra rear sway bar did you also need to change the front sway bar to a cobra one to match the strength of the rear one? Or is it OK to have a cobra rear sway bar with a stock front?

Yes you will tell a really big difference. You need to be careful when you first start driving it after the install. I think it changes how your car reacts to turns, what is it called oversteer?

No you dont need to match

I was contimplating whether i should put a rear sway bar in my 02 and i found out a lot of info about it.
1. The front sway bar HAS to be larger than the rear(v6 =25mm about 1")
2. Without a rear sway bar (RSB) our cars understeer (if something happens and you lose control slam on the brake and try to correct your steering)
3. With a RSB your car will over steer and is more likely to spin out (if you lose control of the vehicle turn your wheel in the direction your spining out and gas it. so you would just spin out or else youll be alll over the road)
Heres some more info http://www.miracerros.com/mustang/sway.htm

To allow the A-arms to swing down to get the old springs out and the new ones in.

the response was about changing springs and the sway bar.

You CAN replace rear springs WITHOUT removing the sway bar.

Sorry I was just trying to keep things straight , i re read the original post and noticed you said the instructions called for. I've never had to.

That seems like dropping the A arm without detaching the swaybar from it would be a big pain in the ass. Not that it isn't possible, it just seems like it would get in the way and have to twist and such. Assuming you don't drop both A arms at the same time... which I didn't since I didn't have enough jack stands.
