Not supposed to use shift stops w/ Tremec

There is already a thread on this topic :bang:

If you read this link, even it says the reasoning is so no harm will come from the stops coming loose!

As long as they are installed correctly, there can NOT be ANY damage done to your car from properly set stops!

This is just rediculous, ok, everyone who has a supercharger will blow there engine due to detonation, because no one will get there car tuned. Do not get gears, you will not read out the right MPH. DO not get an O/R pipe you will get a check engine light. Get me? :bang: :bang: :bang:

Keep in mind that this only applies to the 3650 transmission. Its really not a big deal. I installed the stops in my Pro 5.0, but after reading the bulletin, took them out. This was the first shifter I installed so I felt it would be better to err on the side of caution. With the stops in or out, there is no difference in the length of the shifter throw.

Yes not just 3650. I did not notice the other thread when I posted this sorry to make a double post, however this seems like it was kind of important and if I didn't notice the other one maybe someone else did not either and they noticed this one. This is a TSB from Tremec it is not someones oppinion. Keep in mind now that tremec has officialy posted this and your tranny takes a dump due to a shift fork they could blame it on your aftermarket shifter and try and fight you.

We know its not someones opinion :bang: :bang: :bang:

Its not that we are being rude or dont care about this subject, its just in all honestly it is pointless!!!

I said it earlier and Ill say it again for the last time, CORRECTLY setting your stops WILL NOT cause harm to your Tremec Tranny!
Please read the actual link if you dont believe me. They say they are worried about the stops coming loose or being set incorrectly.

As far as trusting the Tremec stops... sorry, I honestly dont. They felt like mush to me when I first got the car. Not like I was trying to force the shifter past where it needed to go, just that it felt VERY weak when it would hit the supposed stops. Now with my Steeda Tri Ax and CORRECTLY set stops, it is a very firm stop, and I have confidence no harm will come to the tranny.

As far as them blaming the stops for Tranny failure, its the same kind of stuff Ford tries to blame on us for installing an aftermarket shifter :bang:

Please lets stop the insanity now while we can :D

Cant we all just get along :flag:

Like StangLou is saying, no harm will be done if you correctly install the shift stops. If you paid any attention when you were setting the shift stops per your installation manual, you will notice that there should be about a 1/20th of an inch or so gap between the stop bolt and the shifter when it's in gear. The shifter can't go any farther than that, so obviously the shift stops can't cause any damage UNLESS you set them so they don't allow he shifter to fully engage the gear.

Yeah, you wont be able to get in either 1st, 3rd, 5th, or 2nd, 4th, Reverse. If a stop is just slightly off, you will notice that its hard to get into a gear, it pops out now and then, or even worse, which you dont want to happen :notnice:

I don't about you dude, but I am getting a headache :(

To those who secnond guess the shifter stops.
The stops on the shifter, stop the shift and take the impact at the shifter, not the tranny. Any way you slice it it's better for a couple 3/8 bolts to take the beating (or what ever they are, it's been a while) than have your tranny stops take a beating. Anyone here who has the stops intalled properly knows the difference between the tranny stop feeling and the shifter stop feeling. There is no comparison. I ask you guys without the shifter stops this question; Would you put your car in third and kick the shifter handle? I would because I KNOW that the shifter will hit the beefy bolt stops and easily stop all impact before it reaches the tranny, thats how much of a difference there is between the shifter stops and the tranny stops. I am not saying that anyone would ever shift that hard, but it's nice to know you have a bullit proof setup.

:hail2: THANK YOU :hail2:

Yes I have a definate headache from this lol. Come to think of it, I could just be hungover from last night :D.

Basically Im so frustrated with this subject that if people are that worried then just take them out and be happy with your slushy feeling stops from Tremec. Then when they fail during a hard shift or something and you need tranny work, please dont blame Steeda or anyone else since you took out the stops on your own.

Mine are staying in because they are set correctly, I check them every couple of months out of habit now to make sure nothing is working loose.

Im happy with my setup and take responsibility for it, if they want to pull the stops, then do it and take that on yourself if something happens to your tranny.

Thats it lol Im done with this, Ive said my piece!
