Help with Edlebrock carb and intake!

Ok, I have edelbrock electric choke 600cfm and a performer 302 on the car. I started it up this morning for the first time with it on and it doesnt stay running. and when it does it stays at about 2500-3000 rpm's.

I also have a vacuum leak and dont know where these hoses go to and if I have a place for them to be plugged in on the edelbrock carb

I thought I had read the manual to understand that I dont have to tune it right out of the box and that its tuned to stock calibration?


Plus there is a tiny bit of smoke coming from the carb/intake joint area?

No, they go the front and back of the stock holley

The one in the secind picture I would probably just hook to the large fitting on the back of the carb. I seem to remember my edelbrock having a big port back there that is plugged from the factory. If not, you will probably have to T it into an available port on the intake somewhere. shouldnt really matter where. I cant tell where the one in the first pic is going, what is it for? From the pictures it looks like you might have a fitting or two on the car that are just open, cap em off if you dont need them. It also doesnt look like there is too much fuel in that filter, is it getting up there? Your running the mechanical pump right?

Iam doing the same thing on my 82. what company did you order your intake and carb from and how much was it. Explain EGR to me..... please... do I need it?? Als o in your pic where is your fuel filter?

I can see theres no fuel in it smartass , that was my point. I didnt know if you took the pictures before or after you tried to fire it up. So I asume that its getting enough fuel then?

Have you played with the mixture screws at all yet? On those carbs I just turn them all the way in and then back them out about 1 1/2 or 2 turns then fire it up and adjust it from there. Have you tried it with the choke disconnected? It opens if its not hooked up doesnt it, or is it the other way around? I dont think I have ever had a carb that was "tuned" out of the box. You will most likely have to play around with it some.

I got both of them from summit racing for under $500 shipped (that included new bolts, studs and gaskets)

EGR recycles burnt gas fumes and sends them back into the cylinders, its a emmisions thing. and its gay

I played around with the screws, I asked a friend who has the same model as I do except without electric choke and he told me his cam off of a running 5.0. but he told me that if I screw in the crews that they go leaner, and the left screw is for air and the right screw is for fuel.

So I screwed them in a bit and it;; keep running, it just idles high and whne I goose the throttle a little itll go down to 1100rpms but it idles really rough. and I dont know if its a leak or just the carb but it sure does have a loud hiss

No, the right one is for the right side of the carb and the left is for the left. In is leaner and out is richer.

shouldnt that be capped off that is a major vaccume leak? i just thought i would throw that in there that could cause the sporratic(sp) idle just my 2

Did you have to remove the distributor to get the stock intake off? It seems like its in the way.

no you dont have to take it off but it helps just scribe a line on the bottom and then take a marker and mark where the rotor bug is pointing on the cap
