Radar/Laser detector install question

Never even heard of that model Bel before so I'm sorry I can't help you...

Valentine one is what I've used for years now and I've NEVER got a ticket yet. Ask around and I'll bet you find that the majority use or will recommend the Valentine unit.

The latest test according to this months Motor Trend magizine has the Escort Passport 8500 barely beating the Valentine One with the Bel Vector 985 right behind them. Out of those 3 it boils down to price. BEL: $230, ESCORT: $299, VALENTINE ONE: $399. Sorry it doesn't asnwer your question, but checkout the review for some more options if you want. I use a Cobra personally. :D It's cheap, but it serves it's purpose.

The unit I menton in the original post is Bel's latest introduction in the high end remote category. It includes (3) remote mounted laser "shifters" (read jammers), and discretely mounted indicators in the car that are not noticeable unless you know what to look for, very cool and less likely to arouse the response of an officer. Bel recommends custom install, which can bring the total purchase to around $1,400! But it can be had on the net for a little more than half. Just wondering if anyone has experience good or bad.

Save the 1400 hundred and slow the hell down! That is what I suggest.

I had a radar decector one, "Cobra" model and it was crap, then I just decided to try to slow down. Life is short to kill yourself for a little speed, you usually end up killing someone else anyone!

Not saying that you speed, or do anything stupid, just my take on it.

Hey red, how you doin?

Didn't mean to rile you up. I don't speed all that much. In fact I've never owned a detector before - through Camaro's, Corvettes, and now my second Cobra. With three teenage kids at home, the last thing I need is a significant ticket - just to cause bankruptcy at insurance renewal. My car accelerates like crazy! With my mods its somewhere over 400 RWH, and its easy to get +20 mph or more in a flash.

I'm not suggesting that speeding is my car's fault. I just thought that perhaps a detector screaming might occasionally remind me to stay in line, the temptation is always present in this car. I like high tech, its kind of my thing. I like to know what's going on around me, not because I plan to break the law, but because I just like to know. Why should the cops get all the cool high tech gadgets, and have all the fun?

Anyway, ever since I got this car, somehow my "universe of freeway on ramps" has become "minivan hell... :bang: " :rlaugh:

Hold on a minute, it's a Mustang, therefore it's cool! I have considered buying my wife a 6 Cyl mustang vert, I like them. Everytime I've driven them (I try to rent them when I fly somewhere) I like them just fine. She won't drive my Cobra, no matter what. She drove my last one only once - when she picked me up at the airport. (I was returning from pole qualifying at Indy !! , and she knew the sooner I could drive my car the better I'd be :D ).

K40 has a laser jammer that i am thinking of buying...anyone have experience with jammers at all? Its hard as *&^% trying to go the speed limit with a modded car....I typically go 10-15 mph over the speedlimit but I have raced my entire life and know how to drive....it's those 16 year olds that just got their licenses that you gotta look out for. Washington state is by far the worst state for cobra's (cops are everywhere)

TERRYDF you are in olympia? I was stationed at fort lewis the past year. I know how the cops are up that way....Lacy is horrible. Maybe I have seen you....I have a red 99 cobra....familiar at all? I am in the same boat as you....My wife was affraid of the cobra....i then bought her a 2003 sonic blue v6 but now she wants a saleen b/c she says that all the cobra guys laugh at her. At least get her an automatic GT. After about 6 months of the v6 she suddenly wanted to drive my car all the time and is in love with it. Hit me back though.

Yes I'm in Olympia. The stretch of I-5, lacey through Niqually Valley is the highest number of traffic stops in the state (according to my friend a State Patrol Sgt.) Thanks for serving :flag: . My church has been praying for all members of the armed service, at home and overseas. Thank you!

I have a battery powered Escort Solo and am very happy with it. Probably not the best, but it serves the purpose and is easy to disconnect and store out of sight. A big plus in a ragtop.
54life, I arrived in Kuwait one year ago today, and went into Iraq with Task Force Tarawa, US Marines. Got back in May. Good luck over there, keep your head down, and your situation awareness high. Never, never let down your guard!
