Hey guys I need some help, sugestions, or fixes for a problem with my 02 GT 'vert. The car wants to vibrate at highway speeds. I currently have a set of FMS G springs and Tokico non-adjustable shocks and struts, but this problem has been going on even before they were put on. All Ford would do is rotate and balance the tires, but that would not help. The vibration is not a constant thing either. for example around 66 mph the car starts vibrating then as you accelerate to 70mph it eases off then after 72 mph it starts back. Also with the top down it doesn't seem to do it as often. Any ideas would be appreciated. By the way the warranty is gone so any repairs will be comming out of pocket.

I haven't tried letting off the gas at the speed where the vibration is at, but if I maintain a constant speed it is there. Now if I slow down or speed up it will lessen until the next point where it vibrates. 72---->65 or 65---->72

does it do it on or off the throttle , does it quit when you let off the gas even if you are at the speed that is messes up ?? if so U-JOINT is the problem
I was going to suggest that also. My car had a vibration above 2000 rpm's in all gears. Turns out the u-joint was toast. I replaced with an aluminum shaft but you can just do the u-joint and it would be less expensive if that turns out to be your problem.

Would a bad U-joint account for slop in the driveline? When I let off the Gas and then step on it you can hear a kind of a thunk. How would I check for a bad U-joint?
Most of the time yes but the 'thunk' is inherent of most Mustangs. Even with my new shaft I still get a 'thunk' when putting the car in gear.

Get under the car and see if the driveshaft moves inside of the u-joint. Not just normal turning but wiggle it from side to side and up and down. If there is ANY slack then the u-joint it bad. It is not a hard fix but get you a manuel to take you through the steps to replace it.

I have an 03 GT vert with the exact same problem. My vibration is pretty much contained between 60-70mph, and smooth everywhere else. Two previous trips to the dealer and all they would do is rotate and balance the tires. I am taking it back one more time and have them specifically check the drivetrain. Then I will most likely try an aluminum driveshaft. Supposedly easy to install and only about $150.

VERY easy to install. Just have a freind help out by holding the wheel when you are loosening/tightening the nuts on the shaft. I found it to be the easiest mod yet.

Boy I feel lucky I was going to post the same problem 2003GT U-JOINT gone out already is this normal Also I didn't notice it as much untill after suspension work last week = Bilstein shocks & struts, Eibach sport springs,
Maximum Motorsports cc plates< Steeda X-2 ball joints and pump steer kit, Steeda rear aluminum uper and lower control arms, offset rack & pinion bushings. At first I thought it was suspension related but when you let off the
throttle it stops and resumes as soon as you get back on the throttle. I already have an aluminum D/S or it would be a good time to upgrade is there a superior U-Joint= mbetter than stock. also do composite/carbon fiber D/S's
absorbe more vibration than aluminum D/S's

P.S. Completely different car after suspension work WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any other ideas on this vibration in mine it's almost like "tire roar" but only under load you let of the gas and it goes away?? as I stated I just had suspension work done listed above.

lowering?
U joints? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED

How much lower is your car? Could be the change in the angle of the driveshaft is causing the problem. The shaft may have to be cut to adjust for the new angle depending on how low your car is now.

Eibach pro springs front and back advertised 1.5" drop ??? also check out my other suspension mods listed 2 posts up.

I was about to make a post about this. I have an 02 GT coupe and around 60- 70 (in fifth) it has the same vibrating issue. Ive heard of other people complaining about this so I didn't know if its just a typical Mustang issue or what. Ive got Eibach Pro springs.

If it is only an 1.5 inch drop it should be OK. It is when you get below 2 inches that some problems develop. I'd check the u-joint to see if maybe it is bad. When I took mine off my dad popped one of the grease caps off and the needle bearings had turned to dust. That was my problem. U-joints are not too expensive and are easy to change. Maybe just change it out and see if it clears up.

I wanna give this a bump the roar is not super loud but is starting bug me.
Anyone else have any good advise or experience my car is only about a year old with no track time and I didn't notice this sound untill after suspension work.

Noise= roaring sound at certain rpm's but only when on the throttle if you let
off goes away but returns as soon as you get back on the throttle

It's gotta be drivetrain right?

U joints??? could the improved shifts (CHIP) tear up my u joints that fast they aren't neck snapping but pretty firm?

could it be my driveshaft? been on the car 8 months (FRPP Aluminum) out of balance? I had a previous car with a driveshaft out of balance once and it felt/ sounded the same as this.

Are there any u-joints that are better than stock?

Do carbon fiber drive shafts absorb more vibration than aluminum ones?.

COME ON GUYS I NEED SOME EXPERTISE!!!!! THANKS

ANYBODY?????????????????????????????????????????????

Or do you think I should start a new thread something like "my girl's vibrating and moaning anyone have any idea what I should do :rlaugh:
