JMS Side scoops?! Yeah or Nay

Actually they're not fake

I purchased a set of the scoops from JMS. The scoops can be made functional if you ask then for that mod. I did, and if you are into taking your car to the track they come in handy for getting cool air into the car. Where I live you've got to keep the windows up while making your run. It stays in the hundreds here over summer and with windows up - it can bet scorching hot. I can say that the scoops come in handy. I run tubing from the scoops to the front cabin area of the car. Keeps the air flowing inside.

that looks horrible if u ask me-makes it look like an el camino with a trunk lol!!! i do like the open scoop style reminiscent of the shelbys-but hell the install is just whack it would take entirely too long to do for something that has no functional capability whatsoever. also if you get your car hooked up with the pieces like u want it would look good enough to demerit the need for the jms scoops. but each to their own thats just my take on things bro.

I did an install of the functional scoops and it took me about 30 minutes. I'm not sure why you say they are not functional. I know mine are. They allow air to flow to the back seat, and I ran tubing from them to the front area for when I take the car to the track. I can say that they're good up to at least 135 Mph.
Gotcha. That badge looks (in that pic) just like one I saw on a Blue Bullitt that had a big red 'R' overlayed on a 'GT'. I was scratching my head. Same state too.
Why did this individual put Torino badging on a Mustang?
Because it is his car and he can do whatever the hell he wants to it.

It is not like he is putting a "Type R" badge on it or something like that. It came with a "GT" badge, he replaced it with a DIFFERENT "GT" badge. Big deal.

(and I have the exact same badges on my Bullitt)

i hope you dont think the 60's were rice either...

?????? What does one thing have to do with the other? Times change, and peoples perceptions change over time. We're not living in the '60s anymore, and today, those quarterglass vents/air grabbers are RICEY on a street application. Try not to read too much into peoples comments. BTW, I happen to be a huge fan of all the muscle cars that came out of the '60s.

bullitt_5135, do you also have the Torino grille emblem? I just don't understand why anyone would want to represent their vehicle as anything other than what it is. In this case, Mustang and Torino? C'mon, the Torino was never on the same level as the Mustang. That's just my opinion. Not saying it's wrong. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I think I actually like the open scoops on the mustang, tell look pretty cool. BUT I do not like the ones with no scoop, makes the car look plain. OFF TOPIC, has anyone seen new fender that have z3 slits on them. A dude at school got them and he claims he's the first in the east coast ??  Look pretty cool

Then I guess using your logic the entire Ford company is making a huge mistake in making the 05 retro back to the 60's look. err.. my guess is that they did lots of market research and found that people actually like the 60's retro look better. I happen to be in that crowd. Most people I know are stoked abot the 05. What does this have to do with the scoops - well they also provide that retro look, and are functional none the less.

No, I don't have the Torino grill emblem, just the side emblem. Actually, the emblem is from the Torino GT hubcap. I am NOT representing my vehicle as anything other than a GT. Come on, how many people know the emblem on my car id from a Torino? I'd say maybe .001% of the people that see it. It used to say "GT"...it STILL says "GT".....just a little differently from every other freaking Mustang on the planet. What is wrong with a little originality?

Does this help you understand? Dude, it's not that difficult, it's just another "GT" emblem. It could come from a freaking Chevette or a Festiva, I wouldn't care.

And I just noticed that you have several "Bullitt" mods on your car; pedals, intake, Cobra brakes, wing delete....seems a little hypocritical that you are dissing someone from using something from a car that is not "original" to that car but you seem to have do problem doing it. Or is it simply because you feel the Torino is "inferior" (and therefore should not be borrowed from) but since the Bullitt is "superior", it is ok?

Just trying to figure out your logic.....

Touche! However, my mods are purely for performance, pedals included.

z3r0c001, I thought I was pretty clear on the '60s look. So where are you coming from? I said that I am a huge fan of that era. Are you kidding me, I have to be...I was almost born in the back seat of '66 GTO! I will also be purchasing an '07 Cobra (wife's approval already granted!!)

And what's with you guys cappin' on a guy for expressing his opinion. I did said that it was "just MY opinion". We all know what opinions are like. These forums exist for the soul purpose of sharing opinions, expertise, experience, etc. I can't tell you how many posts I read that I don't agree with, but I don't blast every individual opinion that differs with mine.
The guy asked for opinions, and he got them, including mine. NEXT!

BTW bullitt_5135, Nice clean car! That emblem doesn't look too bad, and the red in it kinda accents the red in the calipers. And you're right, I wouldn't have been able to tell where those emblems came from.

I guess my position is this...
I'm not a fan of modifying just for looks, usually. I typically will only mod where there is a definate performance advantage (with the possible exception of guages. But we all know that Ford's OEM guages are nothing but glorified idiot lites. The Roush Stage III cluster was must. I work at Roush, and what can I say...it's a very nice unit).
Good conversation!

How 'bout YOU coin a new phrase if you don't like "rice". What are we supposed to say?

How about you reread my post?

Let me break it down for you:

"Its not rice and putting a GT emblem on a GT is not rice either... "

Its not rice : referred to the JMS Side Scoops
&
putting a GT emblem on a GT is not rice either: I hope I dont have to explain this. ;)

Hopefully You would want to use something other than rice because it is making you look like an idiot calling everything rice. The GT is already quick enough, adding an emblem or some body parts to make it look nice does not make it rice. Seriously grow up and stop trying to be cool using that stupid ass word.

i've never seen a ricer with quarter scoops/vents.. im not trying to read into peoples minds, i just find it annoying that all of sudden EVERYTHING is rice.

Why not mod for looks?

If you can improve on what Ford delivered then why not do it? I think the old school "GT" badges in a color similar to the calipers is a great look on a Bullitt. For a couple bucks, it sets the car even further apart from every other GT you see.

I got the 18" Bullitt wheels for the same reason. There is no real performance gain, but I think they look cool. Thats just me though, to each their own.

And you work a Roush, huh? You know a guy named Benn Bukovac? I used to work with him before I mover to FLorida.

Don't know Benn. What department does he/did you work in? I'm in the Powertrain Design Group.

All, like I said, it's just a matter of opinion...He asked for them...I stated mine. Plain and simple.
Why is it that if you express a view that happens to differ with a certain population, you get jumped? This is especially true on this particular forum. I never have this problem on Corral or MD! :(

You mean the scoops won't make me faster, dangitt :p Alright it seems the general concensus is no so I'm gonna leave them alone. Normally I never really ask about appearance mods because each to their own but this one was on the border of cool or over the top. So thanks everyone for being honest. So what about a roof scoop like the WRX's ?

JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
