any richmond trans knowledge/experience here?

looking into new transmissions for the stang for the new motor, richmond is one thats caught my eye among others, like tremec and gforce. has anyone used a richmond 6 speed? i have been reading about it and it has different overdrives available, its not like the t56 with two overdrive ratios, it just has one, and 5th gear is one to one. will this be bad for drag racing? to have 5 gears instead of 4? i cant think of any reasons good or bad...well one bad, you're shifting one more time than a normal stick car would. what else. talk me into or out of buyin this trans or any other manual trans. good for supporting about 350 rwhp at the time, soon more though. so pretty much a bombproof trans.

I can't help you with the six speed but used a Richmond five speed in the Bonneville car. I used a Hurst shifter for it and everything worked great. You get nice evenly spaced rpm drops on each shift. I would think the six speed would be great for the street if you were not pumping out killer power.

If you're going to highway drive and not strictly race, you'll be unhappy with anything but the six speed, ratio being 0.49:1 in sixth. The four and five speeds are really closely spaced, as is 1-5 on the six speed.

Richmonds require SROD style bellhousings, special drive shaft u-joints and a custom cross member, available thru richmond. Biggest problem you'll have is the external rod shifter, supposed to be a real pita to set up in the small trans tunnel.

$3000 but good for up to 450lbs of torque and smooth shifting.
