I took the car to the track last night for the first time. I was kind of dissapointed with the times. It was also cold outside (around 40 degrees, around 100% humidity). My mod as follows:

GT40 upper/lower, 24# injectors, 70mm throttle body, 77mm mass air, cold air intake, 3.73 gears, shorty headers, offroad x-pipe, flowmaster catback.

She ran a 14.5 @ 96 mph. 60 foot was 2.1 (I have crappy radial tires). The 1/8 mile was a 9.4 @ 78 mph.

I only got to run once because someone hit the wall, and it's the first time I have run a car in a couple years. I was hoping for better times, but I guess I'll have to wait.

Race weight with me in the car is 3440 lbs with 1/2 tank of gas.

the more pratice you get behind the wheel the better your times will get. i know i improved a whole half second with my red one, just learning the car and how to drive it. practice the launches and get yourself some good tires, and you'll be doing better.

From what people on here say you should be in the high 13's. Were you power shifting? What was your timing set at?

I was hoping to hit a 13.99 but I think traction and my driving skills have alot to do with it. I notice we have basically the same mods, though. I was not powershifting, and my timing is set at 14 degrees.

Wow we have near the same mods. Look at my E.T. only running 96mph is kind of scary. I dunno why u got 24# injectors those are a little big for a stock headed and cammed GT. Maybe you running super rich and are down on power. 2.1 isnt that bad with street tires i went 13.79 on street tires. Is your track at a higher elevation?

That's the exact same time I ran in my Cobra my first time out, same E.T. and same speed. My first time out I had a full tank of gas, my timing was at 10 degrees and I didn't powershift. Three days later I went back to the track with 14 degrees of timing, 1/4 tank of gas and I powershifted. With only these changes, I got a 14.1 @ 99.6mph. This was with a bad 2.2 60' time. People say that 1 tenth off the 60' time is worth about 2 tenths off the ET. That said, with a good launch and good shifting, you should be in the 13's. Some people have good luck and don't powershift, I can't get any better than a 14.5 without powershifting.

GEEEZZZ...give the guy a BREAK!!! First time out!!! No way he is going to get anywhere near the potential out of it. Yes the combo totally has 13 second capability, but that will take time and lots of practice.

FYI...I urge you to look closely at my sig. First time out with the exact same combo, the best I was able to get after 11 runs was a 14.5 @ 97. 18 months of practice and driving (along with Nitto DR's, these are a must :) ), I got the 13.6 @ 100.4.

You probably have a right to be disappointed, but don't be discouraged. Use this to build upon and that way you know you will improve next time you go to the track.

BTW...temps, elevation, and track condition play a big part in your potential when it comes to the drag strip.

I agree... dont base everything off of your first time out at the track. When I first went to the track the fastest I could run was a 15.2... A few more times at the track I brough that down to a 14.7. Next time you head out to the track, experiment with a different RPM to launch at and also when your shifting gears. Changing the RPM where I would shift at (5500 to 5000) brought my time down 2/10th from 14.7 to 14.5 with just exhaust done to my car. Good luck next time you go out and if your having fun and nothing breaks, then thats all that matters IMO... but its always nice to bring home some nice time slips.

I was just looking for some confirmation that my times weren't off a lot, because I know some guys who say their stock mustangs run 14.5 - 15.0 all day long (maybe with perfect conditions and all). But I guess I'm going allright. I'll keep trying though.

Remember too that it isnt all about performance parts or tires or how well you drive...if you have any sensors, spark plugs or wires going bad that will dramatically slow you down. If you havent already, check all those old stock parts (fuel filter, IAT sensor, ECT sensor, O2 sensors, plugs, plug gaps, rotor, timing, etc). Do you keep your car in tip top shape?

not bad at all. The more times you run the better you will get :nice: :nice:

"zenboy99" on your 14.1 in your sig, do you happen to know what your 1/8th mile was. I was just wondering what my 1/8th mile was close to in the 1/4 Thanks, Kevin

You can go and check a multiplier to see what it calculates to. Here I went to mustangworks.com and did it for you.

EIGHTH MILE CONVERSION
Your quarter mile ET would be: 14.16
Your quarter mile MPH would be: 96.89

a piece of advice that i got on an aode was to take off on first and let it rev until the car kinnda bogged, and make sure I saw the rpm, and to do that with 1,2,3. of course it's different on a 5-speed but it might work.
i had a 5-speed about 8 months ago and it took me about 1year to get the hang of shifting. when shifting NEVER GET YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS WHEN SHIFTING. this was the advice i got and it took me from a 14.5 to a 14.2.
