i think it over heats when driving long distances or being stop in go traffic for a long period of time. and when it leaks, it leaks. all 4 quarts will pour out in less than a minute. what could be wrong? trans has 109k miles.

also, how hard would a manual swap be? i'm really interested in saving my car but dont' want to put money into a manual tranny. thank you

i would check the seal around the modulator valve, Transmission cooling lines, and Pan seal. It probably just needs a gasket. Dont run it empty though cause you WILL destroy the tranmission. As for the 5 speed swap, i did mine for around $450 it took a day or 2

Dr.

do you need any special tools like an engine lift to do the tranny swap?

please dont bother replacing that a4ld with another one... the rebuild is expensive and they are ALL destined to die... i broke 4 of em, the last had explorer hard parts and a shift kit... it lost overdrive, another one broke the bellhousing all teh way around... now they get used as garage paper weights...

mine did this to when i had it. but i got a 5spd now. i drove about 60miles and then i smelt something burning and saw smoke all ove the place so i pulled over and it was was just draining out like a mofo. never had any problems driving short distances.

i used to work in a trans shop a4ld transmisions in my mind are junk but anywho what is probably happening is the trans is overheating due to wear and tear and pushing fluid our of the vent or the front seal. to make a long story short you just cant beat driving a car with a t-5 especially when its a t-5 that took the place of that slushbox auto
