Functional side scooops

I think auto x is more challenging than 1/4 mile. In fact I believe you could take a monkey with a head wound and a gimp leg, help him into the car at the line, and chances are he'd do ok in the 1/4 mile. Just thinkin out loud though.

Nobody is debating which is more challenging. What's your point?

the 94 and 95 mustangs had little slits behind the scoops so they were "functional" i didnt think they had it until a buddy with a 95 gts pointed it out to me. it seems ford only did it on the 94 and 95 stangs for some reason

True,

I own a 95 GTS and our scoopes are 'functional' there is a little plastic crap inside the scoop and i guess its to cool down the rear brakes.

To all narrow-minded 1/4 mile jockies

I totally agree with Bademt and acidpete, I also agree that there could be a need to cool the rear brakes AFTER of course you have solved the ducting for the front brakes IF you race or intend on racing on the road courses. The reason I have found this thread is because I searched for all threads that involved brake upgrades to help decide on the cheapest/most effective upgrade for my '00 GT. I've already found that most everyone on here thinks that the Mustang is only a strip car :bs: , yet it amazes me to watch them on the SCCA tour kicking a** . Anyway, this past weekend I open-tracked my car and every time I came off the track all four corners were smoking. Some may say, that I must not be able to drive if I have to use my brakes so much :bs: , anyone that thinks that, has never driven a road course OR was really slow and really liked being lapped. Again, noone is knocking the 1/4 mile, it's for some people, but don't try to talk about something you've never done before or was never good at. Sorry this was so long, peoples ignorance is annoying to me and I feel compelled to help them!

Is that dfw, Dallas/Ft. Worth? If so, you need to come check out No Problem Raceway in Donaldsonville,LA(noproblemraceway.com). We race with the PCA Mardi Gras region. It's not as fast as TWS but it is more equal for the cars running. In other words, the less horsepower cars that handle well can keep up and swap track position with the high horsepower less handling cars. It was a blast this weekend, there was a spec-Miata and a Porsche GT3 constantly swapping position on each other, I think they had the most fun the whole weekend :D .

Yup, Dallas/Ft. Worth. I completely understand about the position swapping with non alike vehicles. One of my first HPDE's was in Indianapolis against Cobra's, Lightnings, etc. We were running around Indianapolis Raceway Park's road course, IRP. The coolest part is that the front stretch is the 1/4 mile track for all the big NHRA events that come through town. Those super chargers would simply scream down the straight and of course I'd be just trying to keep up. However, that first triple digit turn would catch them in the high 80's low 90's and I'd be humm'n around high 90's low 100's. Then the turns and man I'd be all over em. What a rush, that's the only way you'll EVER see me going down the 1320 again. ;)
Here's a vid. Right click save as MOV of PART of the front straight. What a rush. If you ever get the chance to come over to DFW shoot me an email. I'll show ya 'round. ;)

Sorry for the hijack!! I'd still like to get a rear diff/brake cooler......

My neighbors 96 GT has the functional sidescoops, but only on the left side. Why not on the right? I always thought this was weird. the 96 V6 I had before my 00 GT didnt have functional sidescoops. wonder why Ford would bother changing sidescoops between the GT's and the V6's?
