What's the best fluid for TKO?

  • Sponsors (?)

They sell a Mobile 1 transmission fluid that is supposed to be the same or it might be the same as the GM syncromesh fluid at Autozone. The paper that came with my Tremec said either GM syncromesh or some other type and it says on the back Mobile 1 that it can be used.

im not aware of Tremec being a GM product, and thats NOT why its recommended. i tried using the other available fluids for manuals trans and the the tremec simply seems smoother when i use syncromesh. i agree it is pricey though, i paid like $7 and change per quart.

The crappy part is I put the stuff in today and I left one of the bottles at the hobby shop!!!! I bought 4(dont ask), and then I forgot one there. Thats 11 bucks down the drain!! :bang: :bang:

No its an Auto Hobby Shop, lol. I bought the stuff at a dealer, but I do all my work at the AHS. For those who dont know, there are some benny's to being in the military. Imagine if you will, having access to a full staff of ASE certified techs, and every tool made by man. The only 2 things you cant do is engine machine work or paint, but everything else is fair game. There are about 20 lifts and 30 stalls, and you have all air tools, jacks, pullers, wrenches, hones, spring compressers, vises, pumps, welder, sand blaster, chemical dip, press, EVERYTHING. All for 5 bucks a day!!

I was told to run Dextron III for my 500 mile break-in. I just put in a 3550, but i'm sure they require the same fluids. I was also told to go with the Syncromesh, so that's what i'm getting. I was told this by a guy who races an 8.7 second coupe who runs a TKO in his, so i believe him...lol
