1/4 mile HELP!!

I have seen mustangs run high 13's at 101MPH or really close to that. Then why is it that my car runs 14.5 at 101 MPH At california speedway. I'm running soso goodyear slicks and holding my start rpm at about 3000 grand (otherwise the tires spin) I already got new MT drags to take care of that but, still why is my car so fast (MPH) yet so slow (1/4 times)? Please help me out if you can. THANKS STEVEN
P.S. I have yet to run the MT's cuz it been raining. Weather sucks sometimes.

What are your 60' times? That might be the reason, or at least one of the factors you are getting slow times. The weather might also have something to do with it.

I think you just need to get your 60' times down. I have heard a lot of talk about guys with slicks leaving the line at like 4500 or 5000rpm and still keeping traction. Im sure with some new slicks and nice burnout to warm em up your 60' times will drop and you will get greast traction all the way through first and 2nd. good luck with that.

hahaha, we could have used this question a while back (When i tried explain somthing to ford muscle 86)

anywho, these people are for the most part correct.
although it could be the driver as well, you have to think about time, everything ttakes time, and i know you know this, but REALLY think about it once. all the time gather in shifting as fast as humanly possible (and or powershifting with that) added up can reduce times alot.

if you're granny shifting or not really doing all you can, it can help
but mostly it probably IS the 60' time.

as a general rule, for every tenth of a second decrease in the 60', it will end up being worth 1.5-2.0 second decrease in the ET!!!!

now this isn't going to prove correct if you change a shift point in one good 60' run, and nail it on the money in a bad 60' run.

work on the 60's, get some drag radials, or get some slicks
and a FYI, my car has went 13.39@99mph, and i've got vids of 13.5x@99/100 if interested.

axeman and millhouse, 1bad89, and a few others all have good ETs with relativley low trap speeds....it happens all the time :flag:

i've left the line on BFG drag radials (slicked) on spray, at 5000 rpm, and hooked it....so yeah, guys on slicks do that all the time

if anyone is leaving the line at 2k or 3k rpm and they've got slicks, they've got problems!

I'll try going higher next time I go to the track. what psi should I be running in my slicks? they are tubed MT's. I not sure about the 60's can't find slips. But I know they are like high 1.'s
One more thing my rear is stock wont going higher brake something??????

well as far as somthing breaking in the rear (axle, ring/pinion, spiders, EVERYTHING) i can't say if it will break or not...

but mine is stock with the exception of a rebuilt limited slip and 3.73 gears, and its held up so far, i've cut lots of 1.7x and 1.8x (and 9s) 60' times, at least 30, so i would THINK you'd be okay, but everyone is different.

as far as pressure in those tires, i'm not sure..., i ran 12 psi in my bfgs last time out and got my best start ever, 1.70 on the money.

i thought slicks could go even lower.....
if you're running 14.5@101 or somthing, you've got somthing more than 60' going on there (unless you're above 2.0 range and you're not sure?)

1.9 is respectable, but with the power of 100+ traps AND the slicks, i would think 1.8 would be more common, and probably 1.7s depending on your ring and pinion, i didn't even check the ratio, sorry i'm always in a hurry

p.s., Millhouuuuuuuse!

If you truly do have the stock rear gears, that is your problem (atleast a portion). Without some 3.55's or higher, you going to bog horribly off the line...and then play catch-up the rest of the run...and no, new gears will not hurt a thing if installed properly.

sorry

I ment launching higher not a higher gear

everything in racing is a risk. chances are good you'll end up breaking something in the stock rear. on the other hand, alot of people do fine (for a while anyway). i'd say you definatly have to improve on your 60'. one of the most important things is traction.

Yea I agree with everyone else. THe E.T. shows the traction and the Traps shows Horsepower. I have an almost stock stang with the stock 3.08's in the rear and when I tried slipping out at 3k on drag radials I bogged horribly and the car didnt seem to move until it hit 2500 or so. That resulted in a best of 14.8 that day when I have run 14.5 on street tires, so the launch is very important. I should do better this year. I wouldnt even think about running slicks unless I had 3.73's or 4.10's. I dont see gears in your sig so I would suggest those, as they are going to be my next mod as well.
