B&M Hammer Shifter for 4R70W

Will a B&M Shifter work in a 2001 GT with auto trans?? B&M lists it for Mustangs up to model year 2000 (part number 81001), but not 2001+. Is this because of the OD button? Could I use this shifter if I relocate the OD button to the dash or console?
Also, how exactly does this shifter work? Can you just put it in D and drive normally when you don't want to shift? Or do you have to "ratchet" through all the gears?
Ultimately, I will probably be going with a Street/Strip valve body from Performance Automatic and am looking at upgrading/changing the shifter.

Thanks,
WES

I just looked at my instructions and it doesn't mention the 2001s. The OD button is actually located down around the boot area, so I don't think that's it. My recommendation would be to call the Horse to get it from their mouth.

The OD button is on the shifter handle itself on my 2001. Does anyone know if there is an actual difference in the shifters from 2001 to 2001+ ?? I guess I'll contact B&M.

I've heard someone on this board say that they called B&M and asked about that, and were quickly told no, it wont work, and was hung up on.

But why not???? It works on the 2000, right?
