okay so last weekend i went to get my smog checked, and thankfully i passed. thing is, ever since i got my smog checked, my car vibrates like craaaaaaazy, especially when the engine is near 1k rpms. like what'll happen is, i'll turn my car on, and everything will vibrating like hell, then it'll settle down very slightly. then i'll start accelerating and as i approach 1k, everything will start vibrating like hell again, and as i pass 1k it starts to calm down again very very very slightly, but still vibrates like mad. my car was perfectly fine before the smog check, what gives?

they also replaced one of my spark plug wires, if that has anything to do with it.

but the thing is, my car was working perfectly fine before the smog check. like i drove to the place and there wasn't any vibration. i drive back home, and suddenly it's like my car makes it's own earthquakes. i don't think my harmonic balancer would've gone bad in that short of a time span.

My friend had a similar problem after his smog check....the guy took off a spark plug wire and forgot to re-install it....i'd check your wires to make sure they are on all the way or not broken from the guy pulling them off....also...if you know which one he changed...you might want to test if it was a bad wire he put back on....

Mine did the exact same thing. Was working fine one day and then starting vibrating almost exactly like you have described. My balancer had taken a crap, so I had to get a new one. SOlved all my problems. Got a new Romac from fastlane motorsports for $209 shipped.

Does the vibration occur when the clutch is pressed down also? If it does, then I would suspect the driveline is fine. The problem is w/ your balancer or motor mounts. Maybe like said before, a loose connection.

I take the car back to where they ran the smog test. You should have done so immediately, but maybe they will be nice and look at it. Just tell them you had an emergency and couldn't go back that day.

Or just start checking the connections at the MAF/IAT/IAC/ECT/dist cap/spout/EGR, etc.

couldn't go back because i go to school 35 miles away from that place, and i had to get back to school like right away. i'm planning on taking it back there as soon as i'm home this weekend though.

i've got an auto, so yeah. not anything with the clutch. i checked all the connections and everything seems to be secure.

siiiiigh. i don't wanna shell out $100

there are about 100 threads about the balancer already that go into a ton of detail about it. your best bet would be to search for it.
