Test driving an 03 Cobra

  • Sponsors (?)

I can understand the dealer's perspective, but if you appeared serious than they are foolish. I don't care how much power the car has, its still a Ford...not a Ferrari. The only Ford vehicle that's in production that I'd buy without test driving is the GT, but that isn't going to be happening unless my ship comes in and I think it sank out at sea a long time ago.

I'm 25.

I don't know if things are different here in Canada because we have a smaller market. I argued and argued with this dealer and he said that no one test drives the Cobra's (I even asked him out of interest if HE could drive the car and I could just ride along. Answer? Negative.)

Apparently, the Cobras are off limits to everyone. He says to me "Yeah, you can drive it afterwards." Gee thanks, buddy...I'll remember that one.

There are not any used Cobras on the lot that I can try, either. Very frustrating.

But...that being said...this is a car I don't really need to testdrive. I have a 2002 GT and I can imagine that this car will rip my current car in half in every way. I am just a little irritated with my dealer right now. Like you guys said, I'm not trying to by a 360 Modena here.

Ha! Little update to my story.

The car that I am looking at right now is a 2003 10th anniversary car. It's silver. The car is very nice looking. They have a great price on it (40,999 CAD).

The dealer has some 04's on the lot as well as this leftover 03. This gave me to opportunity to look at some other colours and it also made me realize that silver is not really what I want. I would love black, but my true love is the sonic blue.

Anyways, I decided to call around my area to see if anyone else had any leftover 03's hanging around that were perhaps in another colour. The first dealership I call (which is the second biggest SVT dealer in Canada) gets me a contact with a salesman who specifically deals with SVT's. So get this: I tell the guy what I am looking for. He says:

"You know what? I'll drive a car out to you tommorow and you can take it for a spin!"

Not only was this guy going to let me take a test drive, but he's going to drive an HOUR to get to my house to bring the car to me!

I was going to go down to the original dealer tommorow and possibly ink this deal. Now I wil actually get to drive the car.....booya!!!

"Not only was this guy going to let me take a test drive, but he's going to drive an HOUR to get to my house to bring the car to me!"

Sounds like a smart salesman. Think about it. I can see it now.

Salesman: "hey boss, I got a guy REAL interested in a Cobra, I thought it would be a good idea for me to take one over to him"

Manager: "hey sounds good to me, just be real carefull, no speeding or anything"

Salesman: "who me??? no way, ill drive it like a Taurus" ;)

I would test drive that one with him, but buy a different one if you choose to buy at all.

Also, you are on the mark with the Sonic Blue, the only reason I didnt get one in that color was I like to 10th Ann package, so black it was.

I wanted to test drive mine but was told sorry....sale is contingent on a test drive only for mech. reason...which are covered under warrenty so sign here and here....and here...and THEN you get to drive it!! It was a 10th anniversary thought not sure if it mattered.

First car i have ever bought that the actully had it on the show room floor. I think the best thing was when they were jockying cars out of the way to pull it out of the showroom after I bought it, the look on this one guys face that was sitting there with a salesmen and his wife picking out options on a Windstar minivan. Now that is priceless!!!

Jack, where in Canada are you? If you are in the Vancouver area and still have problems, let me know. BTW, there are no more new 03 sonic blues available in Canada.

Really? #$@!. I might have to see how much they'll sell an 04 to me for. I love the sonic blue. Was it they were really limited #'s, or did everyone just buy 'em up?

Ha! That's hilarious!

If that car that was on the original dealer's lot was black, I wouldn't of even looked at any other dealers. I like the colour silver, don't get me wrong, but I just don't like the red seats in combo with the silver exterior.

You're right though, this guy seems to really know his customers. He knew the SVT product unlike most of the salesmen that I've talked to in the last three days. I just hope that he's just as good with the financial aspect as well. :D

I don't know the numbers, but I would say that 30 made it with the Km/h speedo :) 6 months ago, there was only 1 coupe and 3 verts in inventory in the Canada system.

Just got back from my test drive of the Cobra. All I have to say is WOW.

It feels totally different than a GT. I was absolutely blown away. Most impressive part of the car? (besides the 390 horses playing under the hood)

The suspension. The car felt ROCK SOLID. The bilsteins are amazing. I would recommend them to ANY GT owner to put on their car. The IRS is great as well.

This car is a blast. Need to get me one of these. :p
