The meg's $200 buffer is a TOTAL RIP OFF, it is exactly the same porter cable you can buy at www.coastaltool.com for like $110

The cordless buffer sucks, you will run out of battery before you finish even a small job.

Actually there is a difference. The Meguiars version comes with a lifetime warranty whereas the Porter Cable labeled version comes with 1 year warranty. Now that may not be worth the difference, that is up to you.

I saw this on their website. Their larger buffer is made by porter cable. Just like the PC, its $200+. Thats a little high for me. Has anyone tried the cordless one? It uses 6.5" pads, comes with a couple batteries etc. It sells for about $90. Thanks.

Don't bother with the battery powered machine. It is not any more effective than the orbital buffers you find at Sears. As others have suggested you can get the Porter Cable at http://www.properautocare.com/porcabpolac.html or http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/...24.htm?L+coastest+hhwb5618ff092f09+1077860619.

Thanks for the information. I think the 7424 is the best deal for me. I found it for $119 and I'm figuring another $50 for pads and bonnets. I am going to purchases a few pads to apply the polish and wax. How many bonnets will it take to remove the wax from a entire car?

Fords4ME: I wouldn't think of it as just removing wax from the car. What you're trying to accomplish is cleaning the paint and preping it for a polish and a wax. WIth that said I highly recommend you go to http://www.meguiars.com/clinics/clinics_template.cfm and watch Power Polishing Clinic. This video will explain what pads you will need and what pourpose they serve. The last thing you want to do is try to use one pad for the job. Generally you start with a less agressive pad as it causes the least trauma to the paint. Your material you buff with is about 50% of your results so it's imperative that you're using the correct supplies. I reccomend you go to http://www.meguiars.com/ click free stuff then click Meguiar's Exclusive Car Care Rxsm, with a few short questions it will tell you what material you need to accomplish your goal. If you have any other questions feel free to PM, I detail many cars and am always happy to share some good information ( since there seems to be a lot of bad out there ).

Is the 7424 the dual action buffer? I see that is says random/orbital, and I didn't even know PC made one that looked exactly the same as the DA.

If you really NEED to use a bonnet, then one ought to do. I personally prefer not only removing wax by hand, but applying it that way too. For me, its the polish that really wears me down and can be difficult to remove, so I figured the PC that I just bought will allow for uniform application of polish--the key to a great shine.

I'll finish with some #26 or #16 which when applied thinly goes on and comes off like butter (especially in comparison to polish) by hand--this gives me the ultimate in control/visual satisfaction that I have done a thorough job with my LSP--last step product for you non-Autopians.
