so i was putting my new taillights in today and i turned on the radio in the car thinking itd take about 20 minutes but then it started taking a lot longer because i got pre occupied and started cleaning the car too and basically i drained the battery. So it wouldnt start and I tried jumping it but that wouldnt work either, it turned over and clicked but wouldnt start. So do you guys think i need a new battery or need to charge it?? I was thinking maybe its the alternator I've been meaning to get a new one for some time now.

if it's a 5-spd, pop start it. if that doesn't work then hook the negative jumper cable directly onto the battery. dont be afraid if it sparks. sometimes it doesn't get a good ground when it's hooked to the frame of the car. the other car was turned on also, correct? i forgot that once and felt like an idiot when i was wondering why it wouldn't start :bang:

I just walked in the door from trying to start it again...I borrowed my friends battery charger and charged it for about an hour and tried starting the car...the engine just keeps turning over but it wont start, so it cant be the battery, would a bad alternator do this?????

i would really charge it up. how many amps was the battery pulling when you took the charger off? an hour may only have given it a little juice. on a drained battery, i let them charge all night at the 10 amp setting. you probably had a static charge, but not the amps you need to crank it enough to make it catch.
let it charge and try again.
as mentioned, when jumped, was the other car on and reving up a bit? you got good grounds, etc?
you can check for fuel spark.
BTW, i dont like to ever start a car with a dead battery if i can help it. it really strains the alternator when it is asked to charge a dead battery. especially true if you have a stock alternator. i charge them first.

my two cents worth. good luck.

compression starting, or pop starting it, is simply turning the key on, getting it rolling and dropping it in 2nd or third gear and letting the clutch out to get the car to start.
the starter does the same thing, but instead of using the flywheel, one uses the drivetrain to turn the motor when poppin it.

I charged the battery alll night on the ten amp setting and i tried to start it this morning, it just kept turning over but wouldnt start up...any suggestions? Maybe I blew a fuse when i was putting in the new lights or something??? Is there any possibility of it being the alternator if the car is still turnign over?
Any help would be appreciated thanks

the clicking sound you hear is that of a dead battery. that's all you hear when you try to start a car and the battery's dead. i had a bad alternator in my 91 stang. the 3 amps in my trunk finally made the stock 75 take a dump :owned: . then i went with a 3g 130amp alternator. honestly, try pop starting it or jumping it again. if you can get it to start, take it over to an autoplace that switches batteries and stuff like sears automotive and have them run a test on it. another thing i can think of is one of your terminal cables on the battery not have a clean connection to the battery. take off the + and - and clean both sides of the battery and make sure to re-tighten the terminals. a loose terminal can cause the alternator not to charge the battery up that great and cause your battery to die. keep posing if none of this helped

Okay, so I think its somethign with the fuel pump. When I turn the key to the on position you cant hear the fuel pump its just silence. I scanned my codes and got code 95. I heard theres a button or somethign like that in teh back of the car so if you get hit it shuts off the fuel pump and I was rear ended before I fixed my taillights which is why I fixed the taillights anyway. I'm thinking the button shut off the fuel pump, where is this located and how do you reset it?? Any other suggestions??

it's a red button in the trunk infront of the driver's side tail light. you cant miss it. just push the red button to reset it. this wouldnt cause the car to click though. my fuel pump went on me and when i turned the key the car just didnt do anything at all. luckily this was at the end of my driveway when i turned off my car to talk to a friend.
