hey guys!

I have 96 stang and got 2001 pi heads and i would like to get cams from comps cam but they have 550 lift. I'm not to sure if they would be alright with my block since i have flat piston. If they won't fit wich cam would be best for me. I wanna get something mild for street and strip.

p.s. sorry for my spelling guys i'm from north of quebec canada

no no no!

I am rebuilding my ENGINE right NOW because I put the XE270AH grind in my engine, and it was in time. All 8 pistons hit, eventually breaking 3 valve guides and beating the crap out of 3 combustion chambers.

I'm a bit ticked w/ comp cams, cause I called to see if the cams would clear and he said "you'll have to figure out that on your own buddy."

So, i figured plenty of guys are doing this, so i might as well put in, it should clear. Well, i turned the engine over and it did clear, but it turns out that the lifters had not pumped up, when they pumped up, the intake valves made full lift, and put an ~1mm divot in each piston.

My engine is at the shop right now, and am looking at about $1000-1500 to rebuild this on my own, with the newer dished pistons.

Well thanks for letting me vent.

I believe that you'll have to get the newer pistons, or get the non-pi cams. You might want to look at the cams from VT Engines, they seem to have great service, great cams, and it sounds like a lot of guys are happy with them. I'm sure their customer service knows what's going also...

good luck!

The stock pi cams are .505/.534-inch lift and they will work just fine. I'm pretty sure that the stock '98 pistons will handle a .550 lift. Pm VTEngine or VTEngines, one of those guys should be able to answer your question :nice: ......When you find out, let me know

So a wild non-pi cam from comp cam will do find since they have .500 lift will they give me that extra power or should i still go with a stock pi cam i got the choice money is no option here.As long as they won't hit my piston

If it were me, I would call around and and try to get the most wild cam I could find. I think you should look into VT mild cams. They are 540/.550, 224/226, 110/110. Just call VT and ask if they would work for your application :nice: The number is 519-245-1164 or visit their website at www.vtengines.com

I would just run the stock PI cams , until you are ready to go into the bottom end and then do the cams and port those heads at that time . stock lift is plenty for headswapped car , you are going to have added compression , the lift difference isnt going to out weigh the cost of the cams , just my .02 cents

Our stage2 n/a cams work fine with flat tops. Been there, and built it before. The comps are having issues becuase of the big duration they're using. It's holding the valves open too long and causing piston to valve issues. Just thought I'd add to this :)

vt

what would a 96-98 gt put out with these mods, stock p.i heads, vt stage 2 cams, stock p.i. intake, accufab plenum, accufab 75mm tbody, prom 87mm maf, k&n cai, 24lb injectors, 190lph pump, autologic chip, steeda pulleys, msd dis-4 ignition with msd coilpacks and wires, longtube headers, catted xpipe, and catback exhaust?

Striking Comp cams from list of potential cams. Hmmm that leaves VT cams, I guess my decision has been made. :nice:
