Broke My Stang tonight . . .

wow, you guys got me worried thaT I WILL BE BREAKING AN AXLE SOON!!!(sorry caps)
I have 3.73 gears now and i'm having longtubes installed along with upper and lower control arms.... on top of my other mods... I'm also going to be running et streets at the track this year.... the guy at the shop told me i could run on my stock axles at the track! He's got a 93 turbo'd with about 470 to the wheels, says he runs the stock axles in his car and not to worry about it... I wanted to get the drivetrain beefed up, but i guess we'll wait and see....

Obviously, my experiences are not representative of many others. I can tell you this though, if you properly heat some BFG DRs and dump the clutch from a stop at 4k, somethings gotta give . . . I just don't get how guys are bolting on slicks and dumping the clutch at the rev limiter and not breaking something. Maybe its because I upgraded the lcas and ucas to much stiffer components that have zero give . . . ??

I don't think they are man, it's a timebomb once you stop dropping the clutch at 4k on stock end

Got it back on the road last night! Had an Auburn 31 spline limited slip carrier and 31 spline Strange axles installed -- I don't think I'll break this stuff. Unfortunately, the stock carrier was trashed in the process as well so I can't recoup a little of my money selling it . . .While I had the rear out, I popped in a Bassani after cat exhaust system.

Learn from my mistakes and DON'T neglect your stock axles!

think again. if you run a sticky tire you will blow that Auburn to smitherines. they are NO GOOD for Drag Racing.

Why would you say that? I saw this diff prior to it's installation. It looks pretty beefy. I can't imagine it not being substantially stronger than the stock carrier.

bro, do a internet search on the Auburn. there are pics floating around that show the carnage. its ugly.

a couple of my buddys thaught they were getting a 'good' diff until they exploded into a (un-rebuildable) 1,000 piece pile of hsit.

you shoulda got Eaton, or DL... Eaton is streetable like stock, but strong, but it will still break... DL is nearly bulletproof and the less tolerable of the two, but it wont leave you stranded either.

thats just plain bad luck. I've had literally 100+ passes in each of my last three vehicles (98 cobra, 01 Bullitt, and 02 Z06), and most of those on some sort of sticky. I use to launch the bullitt at 5400 on 275/40 nittos, pulling high 1.8s on an otherwise stock car (including gearing). That clutch and rear end were great. I wish I would have put 4.10s in before I got rid of it. I seriously think with that one mod, it would have run high 12's in good DA.

Mike: Thanks for the heads up. Obviously, things break when you subject them to serious torque. I can't imagine trashing this diff with what I have planned for my car -- no blower, maybe a little nitrous and lots of bolt ons. I hope to be in the low 13s with no juice and low 12s with the juice when I'm finished.
