This isn't a fair question. I know it is over $8K if you include the rebuilt a4ld from my parents.
However, I have had my 2.3 for almost 4 years, and it has been nothing but good times. I have put 60K miles on it, and with a rebuilt engine, fresh transmission, and virtually no exterior rust, I see no reason it won't go another 60K miles. :D

$ 100 used t5 I ripped parts out of to clean up mine
$ 100 steel input bearing carrier(+machining )+misc.
$ 200 used head,milling, gskt,timing belt
$ 50 used set of lite wt rims(15")
$ plus normal exhaust,tires,radiator,accy belts,ect.(most stolen from cars I parted out)
So, figure about $8500 And my 91 is ready to turn 194,000 miles.
SOO, the last 167,000 hard miles have cost me @5 cents a mile above the normal tires/exhaust/ect.
