Yea for real , I have a
vortech and I love it , but I know both types of blowers have there advantages and disadvantages , I say to anyone that wants a KB , go for it , no matter what you decide , power is power , dont matter if you make it from a briggs and stratton .
I have experianced both types of blowers. (Built bottom end no heads).
Vortech/cooler #15 boost 441RWH. (12.2 @ 115 @ 389RWH)What a kick. Easy to race at the track. Rev her up, slam the gas, pop the clutch and hang on for the ride. You could make many mistakes at launch and still reach 115 mph... Problem: took a while to build up HP, (even with 4:10's). If I want a kick around the street had to take it up to the limit. Not much room in engine bay. Air filter almost touching the ground (AF powerpipe). Always worried about rain. Had to reach upper RPM ranges to get all you can .
KB 14psi . Initial tune around 430 RWH/ 450 TQ. (8 degrees of timing down low) around 16 up high. Much more room. Had 255 on back. Now have 295/18 BFG DR. Time to kick up the volume.
What a kick also. Completly different feel. To get a feel of power slam the gas, instant HP/TQ (need a chiropractor). Talk about the thrill... Only need a second to get a kick. I expect it will be more difficult at the track. If I slam the gas I could slip and slide all the way down. May have to learn how to drive. Once a get a good tune (planing street/Track(race fuel / octane boost)). Expect to get around 470 around the street and 500+ at the track.
Want to try out 4:10's at the track first before I switch back to 3:73.
BTW got my engine bay back, no rain worries, looks cleaner than vortech.
I like the looks , feel and sound (like a 747) of the KB much more than the Vortech. I don't have to rev engine to the limit (6k close to the end with KB).
It all depends what your objectives are. Both have their good points. You will have fun no matter which one you choose.
