11's Finally...But Kicked Off the Track

Yeah I was gonna stay in it but changed my mind, since I haven't raced in so long I figured I'd slow it down so I could practice running through the gears and launching the car....but even on the brakes it still wanted that 11... :rlaugh:

I've been here in AZ for about 1 month, I was only in FL. for a few days and then we came out here. We were ready to get to AZ and get settled in, sorry I wasn't able to hook up with you guys.

I think the last run would have been a 11.2-11.3 atleast. I plan on going back pretty soon with the car preped and just let her rip.
Then I'll have to wait untill I get the safety equip!

Later guys...It's good to be back!

You'll easily gain another 1-2 mph with the skinnies over the 18s, I would say closer to 2 mph. Tuned, with a clean run you'll be knocking on the door to 10s @ 125+.

I'm not going to preach or anything but make sure to get the safety equipment you need. A safe car protects you and the guy in the other lane.

Good luck and nice runs.

just be thankfull it's not a vert because it's 13.9 or out you go.The track in our area is ihra sanctioned and they threw me out last year with a 12.2 pass for no helmet and said we know this is an 11 sec car so cage it or don't come back.I hope to get 1 pass in this year and slip though tech, one bad 95 will have the same prob as well.

Those are some nice E/T's great job especially the 88 w/ 11sec E/T thats a classic :nice:

SuperDust22...I'll be running soon again, prob in a week or so at SpeedWorld.

Yeah I think the skinnes and a harder launch should put me in the 126+mph range with a low 11.
The 11.5 run I missed the 2-3 shift, so a clean pass would help as well.

How much do those cages affect weight...I'm already 3500lb race weight.

Chris

Great job Chris, I know you've been after that 11sec ET for a long time. In all honest I think the roll bar will help you, it doesn't weigh much and most of it is towards the middle and rear. The stability will help you 60ft better. A 6pt roll bar in mild steel should be, for your car, around $850 installed for a custom bar to fit you. The bolt in Wolfe Racecraft 6pt roll bar is awesome (technically not perfectly legal but we haven't had any problems with it in my buddies 89LX or in a 99 T/A), so that is another option instead of welding in the roll bar. A chromemoly roll bar will save weight but is more expensive. A jacket is only about $150, and 5pt harness seat belt are $150ish (get the cam lock...trust me). The only bad thing about the harness is they need to be reinspected every 2 years...which costs $48. I just had to get mine reinspected last August. I can't remember if your still using a T5 or not...the bell housing you can probably get away with at the track. Until you swap trannies to a TKO (or C4..lol) then you can get the bell. I wouldn't get a bell for a T5 at your power level. If you have any more NHRA rules questions let me know...I about have it covered. Did they say anything about your studs on the back wheels with the slicks?

Troy

Chris, I have heard good things about RCI (sfi approved) fire jacket that Jegs has for around $70, and here's a link to some harnesses http://www.mrproducts.com/drvstraints.htm
As Troy mentioned the cam lock saves much frustration, and there's one at the bottom of the page.
I would also love to see your car run. Maybe some of us (SuperDust22, and any others here) could meet up at the track sometime.

OT: Are you a pilot? There's a big story on the front of today's paper about you guys training with NGV's, pretty cool stuff! :flag:

Thanks Troy.
As for the studs I have those in the rear.

No not a pilot, just a crew chief. Thanks for the link man, we should def. hook up and hit the track. The 28th is a Mustangs vs. F-Body day at Speedworld.

Congrats on the 11 sec passes. A friend of mine is planning on building a supercharged 331 for his 94 Cobra. Is yours tuned? If so, do you have a chip, EEC Tuner, Tweecer, or did you get it dyno tuned. I know to get those kinds of times it definately has to be tuned. I just don't know anywhere here in New Orleans or nearby that dyno tunes Mustangs. That's one of the reasons why i don't want to get a supercharger for my car.

just wondering if cost for 6 point chrome molly cage is the same or less for a vert? That and the belt is all thats left but I just can't see spending the benjis for an occasional pass up the track!I know that if you own a new cobra vert they will already not let you race the car because the track officials already are aware of the cars potential. That would suck to spend that kind of coin to only have to spend even more to just run it.I don't understand why they moved it all the way up to 13.9 thats crazy.I guess there must have been a bunch of idiots driving cars with cars that have a little bit of potential into the walls and stands and into each other what ever else you can think of for them to be so drastic on the time change.I thought that originaly that you could run as low as a 11.49 in a vert before cage was required  I guess it's all for the better to be safe than sorry.

My car was dyno-tuned with a chip. It is alright but not totally "tuned-in"
The idle hangs abit, but I was mainly concerned about my A/F ratio which I had the wide-band done just to make sure it was super safe so no explosions would go on..ha ha
I'm eventually gonna so to a system I can tune myself, the chip thing is ok but you really need it re-burned everytime you change something. I seem to never be satisfied with my power level and keep on modding, which req's a new tune.
If your friend is happy with his power level it is a good way to go, and the tune will net him so extra hp at the same time.
Good luck
Chris
