Modified Taillights on eBay

I can't believe someone paid this much for all red taillights that only cost $20-40 if you do it yourself.

And to top it off -> "the left lens cracked at one of the mount tabs when I was setting the reflector, it does not affecting the lens itself and I put a coat of epxoy over it. The left housing has the remains of 2 screws still in it (with some work they could probably be taken out). Lens gasket and housing seal is fair. Bezels are OK left has 1 peg missing, and both are pitted, these are being thrown in as extras. "

I did it on the Thundersnake. It is a bit labor intensive. I wouldn't pay $100 for a set, and since I know the winner of the auction, I'm kind of surprised he did too. But in all honesty, $100 for a done set, isn't all that bad. You need two sets of lenses, and to find nice, clear, unbroken ones, you'll most likely spend 40-50 dollars for the two sets alone. It's a few hours worth of labor to do a GOOD job, so like I said $100 for a done set isn't too bad. Basically you have to remove the amber lense from the assembly, which is bonded on, so you have to be REAL careful you don't crack the red part getting the amber lense off. Then you have to CUT an inside red lense from a second set. I used a dremel with a small cutoff wheel to do this, you need something small to get in where you have to cut. You need to fit the new lense to where you removed the amber, trim it till it sits level, and then silicone it on. That's how I did it at least.

I just completed the conversion and hope to mount them this weekend. You only need one more set of lights if your converting the ones already on the car. I also used a Dremel to remove the lenses and then a large belt sander to trim the lenses to fit. I used 2-part clear epoxy to bond the lenses. Cost of the 2nd set of lenses was $25 and I have about 3 hours labor invested. I'll post pics when there installed. Or if you don't want to do it yourself there is a guy over at .net (not me) that will do it for you just send him 2 sets of lenses and $30+return shipping.

i just did this mod myself.i think that is a very fair price.you would have to buy another set of lights just for the donnor lenses.then it is very labor intensive.i think ispent about 16 hours on it.then i took the chance of ruining something

It wasn't that labor intensive I spent all of 3 hours doing it. Oh yeah, I decided to come home for lunch and slap them on the II so here's a pic.

Well from some of these posts I see it may actually be worth it.

I love having the right tools for the job. Speeds up the job to no extent.

I have some extra lenses laying around that I want to convert. The problem if that they are all faded different shades of red. Is there a way to clean or polish them to there once new luster?

A dremel tool with a cutting wheel to cut the lenses free and a bench belt sander with a 6" wide belt for trimming them to the right height. You can polish the lenses, I used 1500 grit wd sandpaper then followed that with 3M fine cut rubbing compound (PN 39002) and finished with Meguiars Scratch X. This won't bring back the color but it does get rid of any scratches on the face of the lense.

They are universal. The make a kit for 3 lights on each side. Basically the same kit as the Fiero I beleive!
