Engine Swap...

Hey Guys,

Well, I just bought a 2001 4.6L engine with 44,000 miles on it.

I am going to swap it for my 1996 4.6L engine with 134,000 miles on it (started to smoke)

Now, the question is what should I buy or need to prepare for besides the direct swap.

This is what I know so far...

1. Use my existing fuel rails...ect...
2. Use my existing coil pack and brackets...
3. Find a place to tap the second temp sensor or use the "T" method..

Thats it, this is all I know of that has to be changed besides just directly swapping the engines.
Is there other stuff I should know before I start the swap.
I have read threads about the timing cover issue because of the belt routing interfering with the coil packs, also about the water pump being different.

Does anyone have a write up or knows what is involved in doing the swap.
Please advise, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,
Edo.

sounds like you got it covered , if you have an aluminum crossover on your intake , just swap it onto the PI intake and you should be good to go . use your fuel rails , might wanna use the newer injectors off the other engine if you have them though , and use your old brackets etc for your coils and such .

Yes, I do have an aluminum crossover on my old non pi intake that is currently on my car. Can I swap just the aluminum piece onto the new P.I intake?

So, the injectors on the new motor are the same as the ones currently on my 96?

Also, I have a C&L MAF kit which was bought for my 1996 GT.
Could I use this kit on the new motor?

You can use your C&L meter still. And the timing cover from the 96 should be transfered over to the new engine, you are right about the interference.

You don't need a writeup man, you got everything covered. What are you waiting for....lol

Good luck man!

I know it should be a simple swap right?

Ok, cool. Thanks guys, I'll let you know how it goes.

Also, if anyone knows. What kind of hp numbers or improvement in the 1/4 will I see with the new engine and all the mods listed. I will also have a custom tune done with the diablo chip.

I just through doing the swap myself...You have everything covered, as far as the temp. sensor, I just tapped into the top side of my thermostat housing..You DO NOT need to swap out your timing chain cover, the holes for your coil pack brackets are still there.....If you have any questions E-Mail me at [email protected]
