One less competing for new Stang.....

Spanky, I heard about this at SVTPerformance also. I've gone through this myself and I know your fears and a little of what you're going through. My prayers to you and your family and also your doctors that will be taking care of you. I know we love our cars, but when something like this happens, we find out that the most important things are those that aren't the material kind - family. Miracles do happen. I am praying for one. My Grandfather was diagnosed with stomach cancer by 3 different doctors back in 92. The cancer was confirmed by x-rays, blood test etc etc. Most of my family is pretty religious, so you could imagine all the praying that was going on. He was sent to Duke University a month or so later for the operation. During that month+, apparently somebody higher above laid his hand on him, cause when he was checked out by Duke before the operation, it was confirmed that he had no cancer, no tumor, and no malignant mass of any sort. So things do happen for a reason, whether it's bad or good. I wish the best for you and your family.

Spanky- I can't imagine your burden with this. Please don't ever count yourself out. Live each day to its fullest. Try to laugh as much as possible. Do what you enjoy best. If that is chilling on the couch with your wife and kids, then that is what you should make time for each day. You are not alone. Take care, and god bless you.

Oh wow. That's absolutely terrible. Hey, don't you dare lose your hope. Doctors are wrong all the time; they can only make educated guesses. My step sister's grandmother was diagnosed with cancer and given a short time to live(don't remember exact time frame, maybe 6 months or so). That was about 5 years ago and she's still here. I wish you the best of luck,

-Dave
I wouldn't say doctors are wrong all the time, they don't go to school for at least 9 years to be wrong all the time. Cancer is also very unpredictable, cancer has different stages of intensity, and cancer can be stopped if caught early enough.
Spanky - What do you have? It's cancer right?, what kind?

350ztt, this is not the place but all doctos do is make an educated guess. No one KNOWS eveything. In everything we do, we draw lines back to what we learned earlier. All this does is help us make educatd guess's about how to handle what we encounter next. Doctors like all other mere humans are wrong at one time or another. He needs hope. Saying doctos are always right does not help.

God bless you and your family! Don't ever lose faith in God because God loves us in ways that we can't even begin to understand. I know this might sound about ackward at this moment, but God does work in mysterious ways. What He means by all of this I have no idea and never will. Why he took my cousin at age 24 and my aunt I will never know, but I do have faith in God and there WAS a reason why he took them. My prayers are with you and your family and I feel that everyone here, christian or not, should pray for you and your family. God Bless.

I wish you well. Spend your last days well. Do all of the stuff that you've wanted to do. Be strong, and fight this. After reading this, you have made me appeciate how fragile life is.

I have an anecdote that will hopefully shine some more positive light into your life:

We had a guy in our shop break his ankle last year. I mean, BREAK. 3 different places. He was in the hospital, drugged out on morphine for a month straight, with pins and plates jammed into his leg. I heard rumors that the doctors were saying he would never be able to run, or do various excercises on that particular leg ever again. Well, today (about 1 year later), he is in the gym RUNNING on the treadmill, and is busting his ass working on the jet as much as he was before. He seemed, in my eyes, very determined to be normal again, and pushed himself hard to make it work.

So, the moral of the story is, don't always believe the doctors. Faith in yourself and in others is all you need. Oh, and faith in God couldn't hurt either :nice: .

Good luck, fellow Stanger. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Spanky,

It's very honorable and inspiring that you're very focused on making sure your family is taken care of no matter what happens. Remember that we're all here for you on the boards 100% and we are pulling for you and your family. Your dedication to your family is unmatched, and you are a true man.

All the best :nice:

-Chris

spanky sorry to hear this, you're one of the non-retard stangnet posters for sure. Listen man, like everyone else says, stay strong and don't worry about it. It's true, stuff does happen that the doctors say is impossible. Myself, I almost never get sick. Well, a little cold once in a great while, but that's it. Cuz the thing is, I don't worry about it and I know the good Lord will take care of me. I don't know how it works but that positive attitude and a smile on your face is the best damn medicine there is. So take care of yourself and don't let it bother you... good luck man :nice:

Hey everyone, I've been out of the loop for the past 2-3weeks. I was feeling ill and losing wieght and so I decided to get check out. Well they found some spots here and there and now its everywhere. Did treatments for a while but it ended up making me feel worse. Went from 195lbs to 151 in 3 weeks. I decided to stop the treatments because they make me feel worse and only prolong the inevitable. They give me just over a 1yr w/out treatment and about 2 w/treatment. But those 2yrs I will be very weak, and drained from treatment as opposed to 1 year of having most my strength until the end. So, no new Stang for me. Got the family to plan for now. Its kind of a pain in the a$$, never smoked, drink, or anything. I eat healthy and exercise regularly, biking hiking and lifting. Got a great marriage, been with the wife since age 16, 16 yrs ago, married 7 yrs, two kids 5 & 3. Good job, nice happy stress free life. I don't understand, This stuff doesn't even run in the family. Oh well, I'll still be on here to see whats up. I don't know, just blowing off some steam here. I've gotten to talk to many folks in here and figured people might be thinking I dissapeared or something.

well done and good life bro. maybe I'll get to meet you in the next one.
I'd give you advice but I think you know what to do.

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I admire your courage in refusing treatments and your willingness to live your life to the fullest.

Here is a poem that I found. I hope it offers you some comfort.

WHEN DEATH COMES by mary oliver

When death comes
like the hungry bear in autumn;
when death comes and takes all the bright coins from his purse

to buy me, and snaps the purse shut;
when death comes
like the measle-pox;

when death comes
like an iceberg between the shoulder blades,

i want to step through the door full of curiosity, wondering:
what is it going to be like, that cottage of darkness?

And therefore I look upon everything
as a brotherhood and a sisterhood,
and I look upon time as no more than an idea,
and I consider eternity as another possibility,

and I think of each life as a flower, as common
as a field daisy, and as singular,

and each name a comfortable music in the mouth,
tending, as all music does, toward silence,

and each body a lion of courage, and something
precious to the earth.

When it's over, I want to say: all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.

When it's over, I don't want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real,
I don't want to find myself sighing and frightened,
or full of argument.

I don't want to end up simply having visited this world.

Depressing stuff:(. I'll most likely deal with lots of this since i'm going into Radiation Therapy for a career.

This is tough to hear (and i'm a total stranger), and so i could just imagine how you, your close family and friends must feel.

Good luck, and get well. Seek the best treatment, from the best proffessionals in your area, and fight it to the best of your capability.

I never said doctors are always right, I just said that they are not usually wrong. Am I saying it's not possible, no, they are a good bit of time. I don't really believe they are educated guesses, the education is based off of thousands of cases, so they have to be pretty factual, although the medical field varies greatly seeing as how we are all different. But anyway, spanky I hope you make it.

Spanky, I did not think I could say anything better than was already said so I did not post here before. But I saw a special on television last night about a young high school girl that was hit by another in a car. She lay in the hospital in a coma, non responsive. All MRI's showed major brain damage and the doctors were telling her family that she would be in a vegitative state. Meanwhile they took turns sitting with her so that somebody was there around the clock. One day when one of them squeezed her hand, she squeezed back. And then she came out. She attempted school but she could not remember stuff from minute to minute. She could not remember stuff that happened before the accident like a family vacation. They took her back to the same vacation spot and when they got home she made a miraculous turnaround. When asked about the girl who hit her, she said she forgives her because everyone makes a mistake. I guess my point in this is that the human spirit is a miraculous thing. Medicines can do so much, but the human spirit is life. I have two sons 4 and 7 and have often thought of what I would do if something like this happened to me. This is basically what I would do. Video tape talks about what being a man is all about. Truth, honesty, morality, love of family. Courage is not having no fear, but doing the right thing in the face of it. Talk about the difficult things that you remember as a kid growing up. Times when a kid needs a dad. Puberty, girls, drugs and alcohol decisions, school, college etc.. Your wife can play them at the appropriate time. Video lots of time that you spend playing with them, hugging them, telling them you love them so they will know how much you did. Hug them everyday as many times as you can. Tell them how much you love them constantly. Family is the best healer. And if you don't get a miracle, and pass from this earth, you will have left a lasting impression on them. They will always know what kind of man you were and how much you love them. I hug my kids and tell them I love them all of the time. Your story has made me step up my efforts even more. Take care of yourself and your family, good luck. Mike.

Sorry to hear about that man. It's always a shame to see a life ended earlier than it should be. Make sure that when the new stangs do come out that you at least go out and test drive one and give it a good rip. Enjoy your time and I am sure that everyone is with me here when I give you my prayers and my best wishes.

I know you will live the next few years more fully than I will probably my entire life, keep your mind free of it as much as possible and keep your thoughts on those you love. God will reward you. God Bless you brother! -j

...My sincere regards to you and your family.
The soul is an amazing and powerful "entity", so to speak and modern science can diagnose and cure just so much.

The strength in the spirit, power in a prayer from the heart reaches far beyond and I'm sure when all of us in this board and in your family including yourself pray together it will be heard.
