top speed of GT

I have buried the speedo of my 98...it has exhaust and a cold air, stock 2:73 gear..

it has a lot to do with gearing...it is very hard to push 5th gear, mine hits over 150 if you pull 4th to the revlimiter

The only 99+ that came with a speed limiter were the ones that came with 16 inch wheels stock. The tires on those aren't rated for higher speeds so I believe they are limited at approx. 120 mph. If it came with 17 inchers (2000 or 2001 and later) stock, there is no top speed governor, only a rev (RPM) limiter. Top speed with enough road should be somewhere around 150 on a stock GT. I've been 6000 rpm in 4th gear, which is 140 mph.

fastest ive gotten is 135. that was with my 4.10s, so 5th chugged pretty hard to get there. it wasnt even a straight, it was a huge sweeping turn. lol but i think at 135 i was only ~5k rpms. so i could see hitting 145-150+

This question is almost as bad as 4.10 vs 3.73.

The top speed in 5th on a gt with 3.27 gears is around 200mph.
That 200mph is theoritical only as your *edit* (stock) mustang does not have enough power to reach that speed. Some v6 cars and some GT's with 16 inch wheels were speed limited but those that had 17inch wheels are not SPEED LIMITED. You will maybe reach 140-145 but that is about it in your stock stang.

Thats about right. I waited till I hit 140-145 in fourth. I shifted to 5th and hit the juice :hail2: Man, I've never seen a speedo get pegged that fast. :rlaugh: I only held it for about 10sec or so, but I figure I was going somewhere arond 160-170. The car was still pulling but that was plenty fast enough for me.

99 GT's came with 17in wheels too. I believe it was the five star regular GT rims not just the 2000+.
