hey all, i have this squealing/whining problem with my engine. i know that it's located within the serpentine belt system. the noise only appears on a cold start, i.e. being started up for the first time of the day or after a long period of cooldown. at first i thought i was just the serpentine belt, so i changed that...went away for about 2 days. i then thought it was my idler pulley, so i went and changed that thing too. that lasted about 3 days or so. well i figured it was my tensioner assembly so i replaced that as well. that lasted for about a week. i know this blasted squealing/whining noise is in my serpentine belt system because the noise will speed up when i hit the gas. the other thing is that after about 30-45 min of driving the noise will go away. help me out here before i go insane and replace all the pulleys and still have the fuggin noise :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:.

thanx for any help.

My car was also doing this.

Just had the Belt and Tensioner pully replaced.

So far it is great.... We'll see how long it lasts.

Check the tension on the belt. If it is a little loose,it might slip when cold and then start to grab when the engine warms up.

The dealer is changing my idler pulley and tensioner right now actually. It would whine in the morning origionally then move to just squeaky. Hopefully it gets fixed....

yeah i replaced my belt, idler pulley, and the tensioner assembly and it still does it. i really don't want to have to take it into the dealer for them to work on it. wow will that cost me big time :bang:

I've had my 96GT for a little over a month and have invested roughly $2000 in it so far and have come to the conclusion that these damn things squeak and whine more than any car I've seen except a Chevette. I to have a whine under the hood that goes away in about 5 minutes and then the damn fuel pump makes a nice high pitched squeak as well. I bought this car because I always wanted a Mustang and have decided that I love it no matter what names and urges to take a hammer to something I have :bang:

dayum..i feel ya..my car is still squeeking..i have a 2000. so far i changed my serp. belt, the a/c compressor, belt tensioner, waterpump and the stupid idler pulley..i put a post up a long time ago, and i still have the problem..people on the forum told me it was a throw out bearing going out, but the neighbor of the shop doing my waterpump told me it shouldnt make noise when the clutch was pushed in. tomorrow, im gonna try my alternator, im already fustrated and spent more then a grand. im starting to have $0 in my savings and checkings, anyone out there what else i can check.i need the help
