i gave my car a tune up about a year ago (~10000 miles ago). new fuel filter, motorcraft copper plugs (22C) gapped .54, live wires, sreamin demon coil packs, cleaned fuel injectors. now my car has it 100000 miles and now it falls flat on its face at about 5800-6000 and will not go past that. does anyone know what the problem could be and any suggestions on how to fix it?

thanks

If you really have to delve into this, try replacing your coil packs and wires back to stock and see if you still have the problem (assuming you still have these around)

Have you checked for any computer codes? The EEC-V may or may not show the IMRC failure. When the secondaries do not open up, the engine effectively starves for air at the high rpm band. If you do decide to clean the IMRC plates, might as well pick up a new IMRC controller box. Fordparts.net carries them for around $80. If you suspect an ignition problem, maybe try putting on the coils first, since those are the easiest to change over. But it sounds to me that you have had this ignition setup on for a while and the high rpm problem just started. Do a proper diagnostic first.

You're probably experiencing Spark Blowout - some part of your ignition system has failed. Most likely one of the coil packs. The stock ones are the best for 96-98 cobras, bar none, even for power adder applications
