I've heard that this part will actually make good amounts of power, to the tune of 11-16 rwhp on my 98 Cobra. How accurate is this information? I also heard it does this by leaning out the fuel mixture, causing the car to run lean at higher rpm's. This of course can be corrected by a chip, but that starts to get expensive.

Basically, how effective of a mod is this without any supporting mods (chip, etc)?

If you plan on dyno tuning your car in the future don't bother with it. The stock MAF is fine. I basically wasted $250 for a K&N filter since my tune took care of my a/f ratio. But yes, it does make it's power by leaning out your a/f ratio.

waste. the only way a maf upgrade is nessesary is if you are "pegging" the maf. which you are not.

it leans you out and you get power. most places don't like trying to tune you car one you have one I have heard.

save you money for real mods exhaust, intake, cams, heads, supercharger, nos. stuff like that. that is where the real power is.

well now im confused, a C&L MAF does nothing but lean out your A/F ratio?? i thought there were gains in it  so now this leads to my next question, does the C&L tru flow inlet pipe do anything?

the C & L MAF leans your A/F ratio out, giving you some more power, but the same thing can be accomplished with a good dyno tune.

sorry off topic, but what exactly is a dyno tune n where can u get it?
a shop with a dyno will be able to put your car up on the dyno and tune it to make better use of its available power. they can burn you a chip that you plug into your cars computer or they can reflash the car's computer. they do things like advancing the timing, correcting for aftermarket rearend gears, correcting the A/F ratio, etc

thats awesome so basicly they are better then lets say a diablo chip?, is there any place i could look up where they have it close to where i live? Illinios?, k thx man, does it matter if i get pulleys or not for the chip? n i was thinkin to get 4.10's for gears could they fix that too?

first off i live in san diego. notice the "San Diego" under my screenname. the best place to look for a local shop is in the regional forums.

as for whether its better than a diablo, i don't know to be honest. i am not sure if the diablo is a custom chip of an off the shelf chip. obviously a custom chip/ecu reflash is better anyday if the tuner knows what hes doing.
get the pullies if you want, some guys i talked to at a local shop here said the most they saw was 5rwhp at the wheels. i'm not doing pullies because i am going to supercharge my car this summer.
for gears, yea get 4.10's for sure and yes a chip or an ecu reflash will fix that.

This coming from the one who has 20" wheels and flames...pleeeeease. Look, the stock MAF is restrictive. I've replaced from K&N to plenum and am enjoying the benefit of great pull through the mid to high RPM range - nowhere near what it did at stock, and no lean condition. I have yet to get my Superchip re-dyno-tuned with the new mods, but I am expecting an additional 15-20 RWHP with these mods. Right out of the box it feels great! Can't wait to get it tuned.

If the stock MAF is so restrictive explain to me how lots of GT's are seeing upper 250's rwhp and some even 260 rwhp. while still using the stock MAF.

They do make more power, but not because the are more free flowing than the stock MAF. All the power comes from the leaner mixture. Call C&L and ask them about it. You can achieve the same thing and lots of other benefits with a dyno tune.

Sounds like you are just in denial because you made the mistake of purchasing not one, but two of them according to your sig.

No, not in denial, no mistake. Enjoying the pushback in the seat actually. So you are telling me you called C&L and they told you all their product does is lean out the A/F ratio? Jeez, C&L must be fooling alot of people. Have you looked at the stock MAF and, for one, noticed the very restrictive screen in it? Did you pull the C&L MAF and put the stock one back on?

your post doesnt really make sense. a GT can still make 250-260rwhp with a stock MAF, just like it can make that much power with a stock exhaust system, pending you have other mods to increase power i.e. intake, heads cams, timing etc. but adding a C&L MAF, just like adding a full exhaust system will net more power. also, there is a product called a somthing optimizer, anyway, its supposed to even out you air/fuel ratio when an aftermarket MAF is installed, and it nets another 3-6 hp on top of the C&L gains. so if the C&L leans out the ratio, and the optimizer corrects it, where do the gains come from? larger diameter MAF for increased air flow sounds correct to me. also, as mentioned earlier, the stupid screen on the stockie is removed.

i dont know if it adds any power but i bought mine cheap on ebay because my BBK induction was crap. I can say, though, that the C&L is a very well built product that i would recomend definately. my C&L plenum is on the way to compliment my 75mm t/b
