Well see who wins when your trans is shifting on its it own like at 4,500 rpm and im shifting at around 6,000.All you'll see is a back bumper and wonder why you didnt get the 5 speed.Im talking bout 2 bone stock gt's of course.

Funny how you have a turd 98 and you're talking smack. You've got nothin.

Your going to get blasted for that stupid comment. For one thing 99-up cars out of the box shift at 5500rpms, which is just about perfect for performance wise, the Ford engineers aren't stupid. On the street I bet autos win 3 out of 5 times with similar mods. 5speed drivers ability varies widely, not to mention the occasional missed shift, shifting too high in the rpm band, etc., etc.

Evan Smith in a stick would beat an auto. 5 out of 5 times with like mods, but not too many people are Evan Smith. A stick can be faster, but that is dependant on many variables that auto's just don't have.

the auto in a mustang is like a slushbox..i personally think it sucks..i had a 99 z28 automatic before my 5spd gt and the auto in a fbody is bearable..even tho a t56 would be alot more fun..but i drove my friends 00 gt with auto..i felt like i was driving a frickin escort..the auto's in these cars feel like hondas..and the gearbox is so ugly..oh my God..im not bashing auto in speed as old z28 ran mid 12's with bolt-ons..but its sooooo boring unless your mashing the gas..you NEED a 5spd in a stang..but if your building a all out race car, get a auto.

In a quarter mile the times should be very similiar with a slight advantage going to the 5 speed. The 5 speed will mph higher however. The autos advantage is out of the hole better 60ft time.

Forget about shift kits, drop the tranny and get a higher stall converter.

"With an Automatic, you steer, with a Manual, you drive." That is probably my favorite quote. Stock for stock, a 5-speed will always be faster than an Auto. I doubt anyone will argue that. I hate when people talk about "miss-shifts" and "driver error" when arguing that an Auto is better. Miss-shifts? I'm sorry but anyone who talks about that s*** just can't drive a stick, so they settled with a manual. If you are a good driver, "miss-shifts" aren't a problem. Also, driver error doesn't effect good drivers. Yes an Auto can be made very fast with the aid of torque converters and shift kits. But I mean come on, how good of a driver are you if you just press a gas pedal??? :shug:
And whoever said that a stock Auto will beat a stock manual 3 out of 5 times is fricking stupid. Yeah, maybe if you keep running into people who can't drive their manuals you will win 3 out of 5. Put a good driver in the 5-speed and you will lose 5 OUT of 5. Sorry.
I am not bashing Auto's, I know a lot of people prefer them for convienience when doing heavy city driving and such, that's totally fine, the Auto tranny is a great invention but I would NEVER have one in a performance car. That's just me though.

what if i have an auto and have my shift points changed to where I produce the maximum power vs. your unperfect shifting point?

If you're talking about bone stock then sure.. 5-speed will have much more better chance.. but when the mods are in place and tune are set.. you're toaste boy..

My 2 Cents:

5 Speeds= Fun to drive, More power to the wheels, But you need to drive well for racing.
Auto= Not as fun, A shift kit can help that, Drive tran lose, with a bit of tweeking can run side by side with a 5 speed in a race.

I original wanted a 5 speed but ended up getting a Auto, At first I hated it but then I started to mod and race. I found to be a bit slower but way more consistant. Overall I like my auto its fun to drive, but if I was to do it again I would get a 5 speed.

OK i'll give it a shot

5 speed = more controll, more power (stock for stock) and probably more fun. so yes if driven correctly should win (stock for stock)

But lets look at why the auto has less power at the wheels than the 5 speed
(same motor right) Answer more drivetrain loss. Solution ditch the stock 11' converter and get a smaller lighter and much more efficient 8.5' converter from a good company and with the right stall speed now the 5 speed is at a disadvantage. Granted the auto is not stock anymore but from here on out mod for mod the auto has the advantage.

Um, when my auto 98 was stock it didn't shift at 4,500 under full throtle. When you floor it, it will shift real close to redline, if not at the redline.

It would take a set of 4.10's-4.30's and a shift kit to run with a stock 5-speed...

:bs:

You guys need to realize that a stock manual is only about .25-.35 tenths faster than a stock automatic. With 4.30 gears and a shift kit, the auto will beat the azz off a stick.

Its worked great for me. I have had no problems in 2 yrs, I took off 2 tents at the track from it.
If you do get one make sure someone knows what there doing when installing it. I have a friend that did mine thats very skilled.
The bad things I've heard are mostly Bad installs or Bad kits out of the box.
If you get it go for the 3rd setting you won't be disapointed.

I've heard great things about the Jerry Mod as well.

Do you think that if I had the car tuned or reflashed it would then come close to being comparable to a 5-speed? Would I need a tune plus 4.10s to take a 5-speed in my car?

4:10's, shift kit, a nice stall, and traction :nice:
