So heres the story, I have this little problem with the braided SS oil feed line a local company had made for me. I replaced my oil supply line on my SVO. I get it all done, and prime the oil system, being how I changed the oil while I was at it. So everything is peachy no leaks at idle I let it run for 10 at 3000 rpm to get all the crap out of the exhaust (it sat for a couple months). And see if any coolant is leaking. No leaks WAhoo. I decide to go for a spin around the block, the highest oil pressure I went to was ~67psi, at like 4500rpm 5psi of boost. I hear this poof in the engine compartment and somthing flapping around, I start seeing a BIG line of oil in my rear view.
Needless to say I shut the motor off as soon as I heard this. I wasn't more then 3 mins from my house walking distance so I go get my truck and tow it home. Upon inspection I see that the 75.00 custom made hose blew off the #5 aeroquip fitting that was attached to the turbo. Anyway the company is closed on the weekends keeping me and my shotgun out of the building until monday. I didn't hear any binding in the block, but I'm not sure about the turbo as I'm to afraid to take it off and find out what I don't want to know.
All I can say is i'm lucky the car didn't catch fire and send me and my svo to a flaming abyss. Any ideas on what else had gone bad or potentially broken. I'm waiting to rip in to the motor until monday when I have a chance to go SCREAM at the a@#%hole who said this line will hold upto 400psi of hydrallic fluid, why would oil be any different? sorry for the long post I'm pissed off.... :( :nonono:  :bang:

You got me but I probly wouldn't mess with anything untill you and that company has sat down and figured out something to do to see what whent wrong. That has got me worried because I'm swaping my mainifold tomorrow and I'm going back with a braided line from Motion Dynamics :(

They must have not put the line together right. All the -4 teflon feed lines I built, I put the fitting on the end of the line and then would hold the fitting in one hand and pull the line with my other hand. I can pull as hard as I want but the line doesn't budge. I figure if I can't budge it then it should be fine. Sounds to me like they screwed up.

well I'm gonna go waste my lunch today so I can sit down and figure somthing out, for one they owe me another\replacement of a t3\t04 hybrid turbo that cost me a $900, cause I'm not going to take it off and have to wait a week while the local turbo shop rebuild one for me. chances are the housings are shot and the impeller made contact with them... I guess I should be glad it wasn't my new motor that this happend to, but non the less its going to be a PITA to get this dealt with...

As for the SS feed line, I didn't order it from motion dynamics as I had a local company make it.... So if you buy it from a reputible dealer there should be no problems...

Why are you so worried about the turbo and the motor.... This happened to a member on Rangerpowersports.com actually.... His braided line blew out of the fitting and blew his oil out through it, when he heard an odd noise, he immediatly shut it down, towed it home, and put the stock lines back on it.... You didnt drive it like this did you ?? As long as you shut it off right after, your turbo and motor are fine.... I think you are just seriously over reacting....

i agree... you should be able to run the turbo for a minute without any serious harm. especially since after you heard it, you let off and werent in boost anymore. I'd be more worried about blowing oil all over everywhere. invest in some gunk. heh. and have the hoodliner sprayed as well... I've seen people who got oil in the hoodliner and didnt get it out, then the hoodliner caught on fire... fun stuff. I took my hoodliner out, but you might wanna keep it in to keep the heat from the turbo off of your nice paintjob...

Heres an update, on my lunch I decided to head over to Power Industries (manufacture of ss line) Took the 2 peice and sat them on the counter told the manager the aplication. I told him this is un acceptable, he agreed, and told me they would replace the bearings in the turbo if it needs bearings.

I'm gonna pull the housing tonight and check for shaft play and see if the blades hit the turbo.

2nd Whats the possibility of head damage? I might need a new cam. I told the manager I would pull the valve cover and check for metal fillings in the head. Could I have burned a valve(s). I'm almost tempted to send it to a shop and see what the damage is so I get it in writting. I'm thinking a full valve job that I don't have to pay for, the nice thing is with the valve job I get a new head gasket... things are looking up

YOUR MOTOR IS FINE.... If you are being truthfull that you shut it off as soon as it blew off, than all you did was make a mess and lose a little bit of oil.... Or you were lieing and now nervous.... If it blew off and you shut it off, than you need to calm down a little bit.... Your not going to burn a valve like that, they're not even lubricated by motor oil.... Where do you think these eleged(sp) filings are going to come from ?? If anything it will be more of a very fine glitter, and that's worst case scenario.... Your turbo is fine, if anything all it did was spin down to a stop when you shut the motor off, and there's still plenty of oil in it while it spins down since it's not even under a load or anything....
